Buying Guitar PedalBoards

How to pick the Right Pedalboard

I have been playing guitar in a band for the earlier few years, playing gigs most weekends, and We have changed my effects board several times to expand my set up of effects pedals and to increase the protection of those about the road. I feel currently utilizing a 24 inches odyssey hard case. However, after researching cases, I discovered it hard to find relevant information and assist in selecting the most appropriate one. As a result, I have provided some information that may be beneficial to you.

Pedalboard cases are possibly one of the most efficient and tough types of cases to protect your pedals. They may be an ideal case if you play a lot regarding gigs or transport your pedals around frequently. These people can take a hard beating, unlike a soft case. However, the disadvantages are usually that a pedalboard circumstance can be pretty large if you have a new lot of pedals in your set up and a person are more likely in order to injure yourself carrying that around (for example, reaching your shin of the particular corner from it)

One of the main factors in investing in a pedalboard case is to decide on the proper size you need. This is usually a mistake I possess personally made before, just like many other guitarists. You must first place your pedals within a rectangular fashion of two rows, then measure the length and width of typically the setup. Effects boards range in size from fourteen by 5.5 inches to 32 by sixteen inches. In doing this, you should also enable about an inch around the edge of the pedals for jack leads in addition to the power lead.

I might personally recommend investing in a pedalboard case in the event you play a lot regarding gigs or transport your pedals around often because it offers better security than any other form of case or bag. Keep in your mind that the Guitar or Bass effects pedals do not appear cheap, so it is usually worth investing in a new case that will safeguard your pedals and retain them in mint condition, that way you may sell them later upon for a good value if you wish to be able to do so.

It amazed me why individuals spend money on pedals only to make an effort to help to make a cheap pedalboard situation. Instead of doing this specific and spending forever seeking to determine how to make your very own pedalboard, you should invest in a proper one. These usually are obtainable in loads of different sizes and prices, as stated before, so you will end up being able to find the one which suits you. Investing inside a good one may enable you to easily transport and set up your pedals. But almost all of your valuable pedals will probably be fully protected coming from damage, so you would not have to worry about them. As well since they will be held be well protected so you may sell them later if you wish to. The best factor you could do is to forget about trying to help to make your own pedalboard as you will not be satisfied with it in the long run, trust me. I tried that! As well as this it could result in harm to your pedals in addition to because of this it will cost you more money to repair them.

The processing of selecting the best pedalboard is not easy because of an immense collection of available options. In case you have lots of pedals of various kinds of sizes, shapes, and types and at the same time, fully protected ones then the available options for you are composed of the Gator G-Tour, Boss BCB-60 Deluxe, PT-CL2-SC Pedaltrain, and CNB PDC 410 E BK are perfect options for you. On the contrary, when you have a collection of micro pedals then go for the Mooer Firefly M6 Flight and EX Pedalboard ENO Ex are the best. Self-powering pedalboard lovers can consider the SKB PS8 Powered and Boss BCB-60 Deluxe, which are useful. Donner DB-2 provides lots of storage capacity.

For the main goal of entertaining the style lovers, the Behringer PB-600, Mooer Firefly M6 Flight, and EX Pedalboard ENO Ex are useful. On the other hand, the SKB PS8 Powered has an extra travel bag, while the Stagg UPC-424 is strongly made because of the utilization of the study material.

As a guitarist, you need to consider your budget and requirements and match them with the features and price of the options available above and buy the pedalboard which can serve you well as per your specific type of demands.

Blueridge Guitars 6 String Acoustic Guitar, Right Handed (BR-341)
  • Solid Sitka spruce top with scalloped braces gives you clean articulation and a crisp tone
  • Solid mahogany back and sides for robust, warm resonance
  • Slim mahogany neck offers fast, easy action and inherently long-lasting stability
  • Premium ebony fingerboard gives extra durability and striking good looks
  • Every Historic Series Parlor guitar now comes with a sturdy, padded Blueridge Logo ProTour BV-1302 Parlor Guitar Gig Bag

For a regular part of composers out there, travel guitars are simply a way to be more comfortable and protected during vocation and a practical top-quality six-string that can genuinely stand up to the big boys and they can take it out without any problem.

No need to worry about space issues or damaging the body. One of the very best bits is the BR-341 model from Bluebridge. Without wasting any more time, let’s get into it.

Material & Neckband

The very first thing to notice is the generous touch of the instrument and its cosmic build quality. Its booming body, flawless design, a super playable and comfortable neck shine very brightly here, making it obvious that we are dealing with a bonus instrument.

This masterpiece comes with a stock solid mahogany back and sides mixed up with a solid Sitka spruce top. It feels like a standard tonewood combo, but we can not ensure that quality craftsmanship and careful selection have done their part of work which might not produce the expected sound results.

The neck piece is mahogany that is not inclined to bend at all, making the instrument very well adapted for traveling. The ebony fingerboard makes the guitar stand out way above the rest that makes the performance significantly easier, lessens fret noise to zero, and gives the six-string a rhythmic feel. So here BR 341 gets all the 5 out of 5 marks! Hurrah!

Other peculiarities worthy of mentioning include a rosewood bridge, bone nut, and saddle, a 24.75 inch (630 mm) scale length, a 1-7/8 inch nut width, a maple bridge plate, a dark tortoise binding, and matching soundhole rings.

The top sonic attacks we have ever heard from a guitar this small. The reverberation, friendship, and stroke are on par with many dreadnought models, and the appearance of low-end beats has gallantly amazed us. Parlor models usually lack basses and offer a banjo-like sound, but this guy packs a mean punch, allowing everything a quality full-grown six-string has, within a small package.

In a nutshell, except warm basses, punchy middles, and bright trebles. Much like with the body section, we can only give it a 5/5.

Yamaha CSF1M TBS Parlor Size Acoustic Guitar with Hard Gig Bag- Tobacco Brown Sunburst
  • The Yamaha csf Series takes parlor-size acoustic guitars to a new level
  • The 600mm Scale Length, 34mm shorter than a standard full-size acoustic, feels and sounds like a full-sized Guitar, just more comfortable
  • Mahogany and Sitka Spruce construction, with all-solid woods on Csf3 provide a rich, full, inspiring tone
  • The passive Zero impact pickup provides gig-ready flexibility with natural, dynamic plugged-in tone
  • Includes a durable, Hard Gig Bag

You can always rely on Yamaha to have a guide to offer – and the parlor guitar market is no different. Whether a high-end warship or a convenient travel guitar.

The CSF1M is an affordable electro-acoustic parlor guitar that is well on its way to becoming one of the most popular parlors on the market. Being part of the newly released CSF Series. Let’s perceive how?

Body & Neck

Without being particular it’s a very good-looking instrument with classic Yamaha style and having some choices that suggest it’s a step above some of the more budget parlors. With its naturally glossy finish or the more impressive Tobacco Brown Sunburst for a little extra vintage vibe. Either finish is completed with an attractive black and white body binding along with a simple abalone rosette. Apparently it looks so awesome.

The brand uses its parlor design, with a more full-bodied sound. They make use of a quality solid Sitka spruce on the top, featuring scalloped X-bracing, along with eliminating mahogany on the sides and back of the guitar. The build is classic Yamaha. The reduced parlor size and 23.6” scale length make it comfortable for smaller players and those wanting a more compact playing experience (newcomers, that’s for you chaps).

Moving up to the neck and you’ll find this is made from solid nato, with a 20-fret rosewood fretboard. For what is still a very easy accessible guitar, this neck is engaging to hold and operate, with a pleasant C-shaped profile and a semi-gloss glaze. The playability could serve from good fixings, but it’s not too bad right from the box.

For an affordable midrange parlor guitar, the tools on the CSF1M are conventional, also it does present a few nice surprises. With no specified panel on the side bout, it’s expected to fully miss the electronics, which are tucked away in the soundhole. One thing that’s not directly visible when you pick up the instrument is that it’s an electro-acoustic.

It is a passive SRT Zero-Impact piezo pickup, which is a fine extension, although all sound-shaping must be done from the amp. The closed gear diecast chrome tuning machines are stable and specific, as one could expect from a Yamaha in this price range.

Also, it comes fitted with a good set of Elixir NANOWEB 80/20 Bronze Light strings – so a string change won’t be required for some time – as well as its stimulating case, which is an added appreciated bonus.

The CSF1M sounds lovely being a midrange parlor guitar. The blend of solid spruce and flaky mahogany moves for a warm and well-balanced tone attractively with good low-end for a small guitar. This is partly due to the slightly bigger bodice, which also helps with the unplugged projection. The sound through an amp is pretty good though, it’s a passive pickup, the output isn’t as punchy or loud as you may expect.

Fender CP-100 Parlor Small-Body Acoustic Guitar
  • Laminated spruce top with laminated mahogany back and sides
  • Quartersawn Scalloped X-Bracing
  • 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with smaller dot inlays
  • Open gear chrome tuners

If you’re having an outlook of guitars up to less than $500, the Fender is a parlor you should think of. If you’re on a budget, Fender did a surprisingly great job at composing a decent parlor guitar that’s great to perform on. Nonetheless, I should suggest that you should not exact high-quality character and sound production from this guitar, as it is a low-priced instrument.

Neck and Body

This instrument has a fitting sound and is a lot of fun to play! A lot of performers speak about how much they like the sunburst finish, as it adds a vintage look and tastes to the parlor guitar. Joined at the 14th fret, the neck (with a slightly smaller scale length of 24.75”) is made up of gloss-finished mahogany with a rosewood fretboard, which is based on a total of 20 vintage frets. This makes a smoother playing experience.

On the Fender-branded headstock, you will find a set of sealed chrome tuners, which do a good job of keeping tuning in check, while the rosewood bridge guarantees establishment at the other end. The only downfall is to find that the nut and hull are made of plastic – unless, it is a good offering from Fender.

You’re going to be purchasing a laminate wood guitar, which means that the tone quality isn’t going to be as good as a guitar that’s made out of solid wood. Yet, if you’re an opening guitarist, this isn’t going to make a big exception to you! The only main downside about this guitar is that it does not come with a case, so you will have to purchase a bag or a hard case to keep the guitar in separately.

There is a strong midrange, but the overall tone resides strong, focused and adaptable for so many styles of playing. The CP60S follows the trend of newer parlor guitars in rendering an exceptional tone that doesn’t fall into the ‘quiet and boxy’ description that many parlor guitars of yesteryear were marked with. Sure, the CP60S is not quite on the same level as a warship, but it surely packs a punch for such a small guitar.

Overall, I would suggest that you should check out this guitar being an initial guitarist who is looking forward to trying out a parlor guitar. This is an amazing first step guitar that’s easy to follow and to play on; the Fender would also present a great relief for young children looking to play parlor acoustic guitar for the first time.

The iconic brand has fascinated us with the CP60S, which we consider is much better than the old CP-100 in multiple ways. The playability, the design and the tone all combine into a very appealing combination for rookies and intermediates – plus that’s before you factor in the very attractive price tag.

Eastman is known for its premium guitars, and this acoustic parlor is no exception. Looking at the price for this Eastman parlor guitar may panic the bulk of infrequent players, still, don’t let the cost get you down. We’re continuing to plunge right into how this higher price is sustained, from the build quality to the spec, and what you can expect when it comes to the tone.

So what are we waiting for, Let’s get into it?

Eastman has gone for a rich ebony fingerboard, along with a solid spruce top, hand-carved bracings, hard rosewood, mahogany neck, and a premium nickel hardware surface.

Analyzing the wood blend and hand-carved craftsmanship you can see how the price and time-per-build can easily skyrocket (which is why it can be quite challenging to find this specific guitar down at your local music store else like this.

This 24.9″ instrument has a high quality hand crafted build encompassing a mahogany neck with 19 frets and a solid rosewood body which makes up for the slightly high price tag.

Hello, beginners or players! I’m sorry but this is a thing not recommended to you guys, or all the other chaps haven’t heavily invested in playing their acoustic guitars usually, merely because of the price. If you’re looking to settle on a premium parlor guitar that looks like a standard, traditional acoustic with an added material build, this is the one you’re after!

It also lacks electro-acoustic inclination, yet, pickups can be added for a hefty bounty. If you’re in the market for a premium parlor guitar, it’s certainly worth getting your hands on the E20P-SB.

Gretsch G9201 Honey Dipper Metal,Gray,Nickel Plated Brass Body
  • Round neckNickel-plated brass bodyMahogany neck25" scale lengthRosewood fingerboardAmpli-Sonic coneBiscuit bridge
  • It has a round neck that's perfect for blues-based music such as Mississippi Delta blues, country blues or even ragtime blues
  • The G9201 features a nickel-plated brass body with traditional-style F holes
  • The heart of this richly resounding guitar is the Gretsch Ampli-Sonic resonator cone, hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99-percent pure aluminum for fantastic volume and sonic projection
  • Gretsch is proud to take players on a musical journey through nearly a century of great Gretsch history by introducing its Roots Collection of acoustic instruments

If you’ve grounded on this examination then no doubt you are here because of this much hype of these guitar sites and buyers guides gushing about the G9201. With this being said, it certainly tops our best of parlor guitars list, and with good reason too.

This is a unique type of instrument that was originally designed to provide guitarists in the early 20th century with more sound when playing in a live setting. Now, resonators are cherished the career over, particularly by guitarists who support old school blues and bluegrass. And this is where the G9201 reaches in.

From its vogue and excellent build quality to its beautiful booming tone, this is truly an acoustic spectacle that you can’t blow out if you’re in the warehouse for a stripped-back bit of blues. Let’s take a broader look at what makes the G9201 so good!

The body of the Gretsch is all brass, being a true resonator ensuring that volume fully travels across the body. The sound that originates from this fellow is passionately soulful, whilst maintaining the original sound that makes it an amazingly mid-range resonator guitar.

There are so many body diaphragms that work better than others, most notably on brass bodies that are built exactly for the resonating purpose. Cutting the long story short do we need to run after why a cone diaphragm is the most suitable type the Honey Dipper?

Body and neck

It’s known across blues circuits that brass bodies generally present a wonderful average ground between the more ‘jangly’ full metal bodies, and the more compressed sound of a regular wooden construct. The neck is amazingly slim, and the guitar, in general, looks a lot more troublesome than it is.

It’s a very nice surprise, as you can imagine that standing on stage with a heavy brass guitar for hours would start to be an issue! It’s like holding light yourself whereas making others feel heavy for you. The slender neck and light body also make the Honey Dipper incredible for amateurs who just want to dip straight into the world of the classic blues guitars.

Moreover, let’s encounter it, if that’s what your favorite genre is and you’re continuous on starting with a resonator, then the Honey Dipper is a great spot to start. The hawk-eyed amongst you will have spotted the F-Holes at the top of the body, a fabulous addition that brings the classic shape into the 21st century, whilst skilfully remaining true to exactly what any guitarist would think of when picturing a brass resonator.

This advanced blend sits perfectly beneath the classic 30’s headstock, again a delightfully thin and slimline square headstock that was a common build addition on guitars of that era. The neck is made of Mahogany witha scale length of 635 mm and a slim nut width of 44mm with 19 Frets (jumbo) while the Body Build is an F-Hole Shape with Classic Bell Brass Construct. The Overall Length of Body is 479mm.

Generally, the Honey Dipper will come with 0.12 check strings. This simply allows the sound to be ‘thicker’, and the thin neck/body sequence requires a heavy string to ensure that tone is passed through, enough to be surprisingly clear as a result. As a true blues guitar, we’d recommend true-blues strings. Martin 0.12 gauge will get the job done absolutely (and also seem to be the common consent in the resonator identity).

Is this an electro-acoustic guitar?

No, but you will be surprised about the volume of this acoustic. You may more commonly see the Honey Dipper referred to as a ‘Delta Blues’, ‘Mississippi Blues’ or even a ‘Porch Blues’ guitar.

An amazing resonator guitar and a handy one, perfect for hardcore followers of blues and players who want an acoustic that is there go-to blues guitar. Also fantastic for absorbing slide, and would work well as a stand-alone slide guitar. The G9201 is fairly valued, notably for its superior build quality. The sound is very loud, absolute for home use or on the road. Is right at home when completed with a slide and a bit of 12 bar blues. If you’re not a fan of classic blues, you may not fully appreciate the unique sound of the Honey Dipper.

The G9201 Honey Dipper is a real resonator, a classic model that combines modern characters, whilst managing a true delta tone and build quality. We’d recommend this as easily the best resonator guitar available today. From the price to the materials used, along with the ease of playability, it doesn’t get any better than the Honey Dipper. It’s obvious just by looking at it that this is for the blues players, though, if you’re just curious in playing chords it’s difficult not to fall in love with the warm tone of this guitar.

Ibanez PN15 Parlor Size Acoustic Guitar Brown Sunburst
  • Parlor Body
  • Mahogany Neck
  • Mahogany Back and Sides
  • Spruce Top
  • Black and White Multi Rosette

In the lightning-quick, high-gain electric guitar market, Ibanez may have a deserved reputation for their work at the same time Japanese brands make a popular acoustic guitar too – as the PN15 parlor is out to confirm. This compressed guitar sits comfortably as one of the more affordable models in the list of our best parlor guitars, so let’s perceive what the confusion is about.

Body & Neck

The body feels a little bigger than some of the other parlors we’ve highlighted. This isn’t certainly a good or bad thing but does offer a bigger prominence. The PN15 is made from flaky materials – spruce on the top, with the mahogany-like used for the tail and surfaces. The body is glazed with a high-gloss mature brownish sunburst finish, as well as a black and white soundhole rosette for a different characteristic. The neck is made up of Gloss-Finished mahogany.

Along with nandu (Indonesian wood, which is a popular material with Ibanez) for the fretboard, which houses a total of 18 frets. The nut width is 1.65” which is great for tweaking though it feels a little cramped in the hands for finger-picking. It is a mass-produced production model, in this price range.

Ibanez in this regard needs to be justified for not offering extreme but they do touch with their contribution. While there is nothing high-end, this parlor comes with a set of Power bridge pins, which make string changes easier and keeps the strings tightly in a place. Along with that, the PN15 is furnished with a set of decent (but stock) chrome tuners, with an Ivorex II nut and saddle, which marginally improves tuning durability and defend.

With X bracing and the slightly larger body, this is one parlor that sounds, with a good prediction for the size and a surprisingly open tone – still a little midrange heavy, but one which is quite well stable and not especially boxy. This is a wallet-friendly parlor guitar so we didn’t expect it to set the world alight. It won’t compare to some of the mid-range offerings, still influences.

The Ibanez PN15 is an outstanding choice for amateurs, songwriters or professionals who solely want a parlor guitar on hand for an inspiration strike, with a well-balanced tone, a quality build, and a very appealing price.

Tanglewood TWJPE Acoustic Guitar
  • Parlor Model
  • Solid Cedar Top
  • Amara Back & Sides w/ Spalted Mango wedge
  • Natural Gloss Finish
  • Fishman Sonitone Electronics

Tanglewood pleasantly surprised fans the world over with the TWJP. The actual build of the guitar is all made from the wood up to the unique neck and headstock, all point to the immense detail that Tanglewood has put into making.

Let’s take an accurate look at the sounds, pros, cons, and spec of the TWJP (also why we’re huge supporters of this budget blues guitar).

Build and Hardware

Your first thoughts are gonna say simply…wow while looking at this guitar. The body and neck are amazingly thin, though, for the era in which this guitar is based, it would be seen as larger than usual. Not that this will affect playing, and it is much smaller than a typical battleship or full-bodied acoustic.

Tanglewood has brought the parlor guitar into the 21st century by ensuring it is an electro-acoustic model. Not one to stick to traditional builds, Tanglewood has built this TWJP with a solid cedar top. Followers of classical guitars will understand that cedar is more commonly used on nylon string guitars, still, in this instance is important in keeping the weight and compact appeal of the guitar whilst ensuring that a full tone is affirmed.

The back of the guitar is the aforementioned mango mixture, wonderfully light wood that again is more generally seen on classical guitars. Tanglewood even goes as far as to add a mahogany binding in the place of more affordable materials, which concludes the body composition off and again speaks to the extent of detail that has gone into this build.

The top half of the body is very small and can throw consistent members who expect to rest on a bulkier top half of the body. This would take time to get used to it and followed with the slim neck can leave the guitar feeling rather strange in your hands. The tone is not as ‘full’ as larger guitars, which can be heard at the higher-end when plugged in… But this is exacted with a parlor guitar and a low-cost model should be adopted rather than shunned.

This instrument is especially great for Beginners and fans of blues guitar who want low-cost enlightenment to the world of parlor guitars. Within this price, it has to be said that this guitar is worth every penny. Though it doesn’t compete with more upscale models, the overall quality is incredible for the price. The electro-acoustic feature is not prominent, but at this price that is to be expected. With a little tweaking and extension of more polished hardware, the TWJP E will come into its own.

Eko NXT Series Parlor Guitar - Natural (06217030)
  • Agathis top, back, and sides
  • Rosewood fingerboard
  • Slotted headstock with premium open tuners

The Eko NXT is, at a glimpse, a stunning acoustic, very clearly getting away from both classical guitars and old-school parlor models. Let’s get into the answers to all the questions popping up in your mind.

Body & Build

The body of the NXT is built from solid basswood, providing the tone a booming sound that many blues guitarists will value. It’s not as balanced as the more expensive resonators, but at such a low price it’s easy to see why Eko has gone for this particular element.

The rosewood body is matched with an Agathis top and sides, which upgrade the ‘more natural’ basswood and give the tone stimulating inference up to its needs. This guitar is built with alot of ingredients; The body is basswood while the back is made of Agathis and the neck is made of mahogany while the fret from Rosewood.

The beautiful build, unique style and use of materials is certainly a spectacle to behold for the price, however, the sound just isn’t quite there about other low-cost models. Yet, we’re in the middle of the road with this guitar in terms of where we rate it, however, its Ideal for novices who want an acoustic that looks a little distinctive!

It’s still a great guitar for entrants who do not want to invest a large amount into a blues guitar, so if you’re looking for a parlor on a budget then don’t miss up the chance to get your hands on this one.

Washburn Vintage Series R314KK Acoustic Guitar
  • Aged finish, Spruce Top
  • Trembesi sides and back
  • Mahogany V neck, Hard case

With a moderate cost, a wondrous build endowment, and an all-round retro aesthetic, it’s very hard not to love this parlor guitar contribution from the legendary producers over at Washburn. But, before you go jumping recklessly into securing this classic, it’s probably best to learn more about exactly why professionals around the world are ranting about the R314KK

Let’s get into it.

Build, Body and Hardware

You need to know that if you’re looking for a vintage guitar then this is an outstanding choice. The body shape fits quite, it’s crafted from a wonderfully unique Trembesi wood, which is a fascinating wood that many mid-range acoustic guitar manufacturers.

This is mostly down to its price, but also the astonishing range that can come from the wood without having to opt for a more valuable quality. The wood body is covered with a Trembesi back, along with a fresh spruce top, and a surprisingly thin mahogany neck (which is another sign of quality).  The laminated wood gives the body a delightfully ‘aged’ look, with the lower half almost looking like a shadow of the top section. Despite the multiple wood blend, the guitar is light (4.5g) and remains true to the classic parlor guitars of the late 20th and early 21st century.

Finally, the headstock is also a love letter to the original parlor guitars, drilled with small cutaways which add to the overall classic look. Even the fretboard has been given extra attention, with triple-dot which shows that every single part of this build has been given an extra thought. Solely gleaming.

A covenant, retro and well-built guitar goal for lovers of the parlor shape, for blues players, and for passengers who want a reliable acoustic to take on the road. Also great for acoustic players who are looking for an acoustic that is just a little denser. For this combination of wood, the two-tone build, and the aged styling, you would demand to pay much more. To roundup this display, it’s got to be a 5-star rating all round from us. The R314KK initially enquired about how much it was, and just found it was a lot more expensive than it is!

From challenging around and verifying that our love for this guitar is not just a prejudice, we can validate that many of the more ‘standard’ acoustic guitarists also consider this Washburn as a vintage go-to, based on the smaller sizing and blend.

Luna Gypsy Muse Parlor Acoustic Guitar, Mahogany
  • This full parlor guitar is part of our all mahogany Gypsy series which offers warm and inviting tone in three distinct profiles
  • A surprisingly affordable price is paired with elegant features
  • Features walnut stringers at the back, Luna's signature moon phase fret markers, and a subtle celtic-inspired rosette
  • This acoustic is ideal for finger-style players who desire a powerful punch with an inviting midrange

Luna Guitars holds a space in their program for a variety of parlor designs to feed to those who love this popular style of apparatus. The mahogany Gypsy Muse Parlor is one of their most traditional contributions, emphasizing love and attention – not to mention the value – that regular reader would expect from Luna. Let’s take a friendlier look…

Body & Neck

Part of Luna’s all-mahogany, all-laminate Gypsy series, there is no wonder to find this 25.25” scale length parlor is made solely from mahogany, offering a warm look and tone to resemble.  This is one of the more fascinating on this entire list which isn’t extraordinary for a Luna pattern. The most important detailing appears on both the neck – with Luna’s pearl ‘moon forms’ fret markers – as well as the Celtic Knot rosette, which is a unique piece across the entry-level Gypsy Series.

The cloth finish across the body and neck gives this guitar a complex air, as well as heightening the feeling of speed on the neck. This neck emphasizes a comfortable C shape with a conventional 1.69” nut width, along with a black hickory fretboard and 21 total frets (joined at the 14th fret).

Being an all-out acoustic guitar, there is nothing to about electronics, although Luna has produced a similar spruce-topped parlor, which extends a built-in tuner. The mahogany version, which is slightly more affordable. Still, no big deal because the rest of the hardware is very good for the sub-$200 price tag.

You will find a set of sealed die-cast chrome tuners, as well as a urea nut, at the top of the guitar. At the other end, there’s a modern black walnut bridge along with a urea leather. The neck is also furnished with a dual-action support rod, for easy accent tweaks.

This contribution from Luna overwhelmed in terms of tone. Overall, it’s very pleasing and packed a powerful stroke for such a small guitar, with great midrange importance. This common characteristic is one that most blues and folk players will acknowledge. Keep in mind that the mahogany build offers a little more warmth in tone than the spruce version.

Chinese-made parlor guitar, you may not have been anticipating much, but we were powerfully influenced by Luna’s mahogany offering. It falls a little short in tonal depth connected to some of the higher-end solid-wood parlors, but overall it proves more than worth its price tag – as favors to be the case with most Luna devices.

Now that we’ve finished reviewing a modern list of Parlour Guitars, we hope that some of you will use this to bring a little old school blues back to life!

The focused tone and the compact bodies of the parlor guitars may have been exclusively for smaller audiences in the past, but now some manufacturers have modernized them to give a wider range while retaining some of the original parlor features..

Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff Distortion with Top Boost Guitar Effects Pedal
  • High input impedance buffered bypass
  • Output volume and master drive controls
  • 3-Band EQ: bass, mid and treble
  • Foot switchable Top Boost with separate control knob
  • 9-volt battery included, Optional 96DC-200BI power supply available

In the world of guitar pedals electro Harmonix has a class of its own. Electro Harmonix Muff series is one of the most iconic effects in the history of guitar pedals. If you are a fan of heavy metal tone, then electro Harmonix Muff is your lucky boy! Lets begin with what this beast is capable of.

One thing common in the Muff series is its classic simple design. As usual it has a double wide chassis but comes with a twist of black finish. If we compare it to the other series of electro harmonix it shares no similarities rather its a whole new beast. In terms of ruggedness and durability of the pedal, it truly portrays the electro harmonix standard quality. Well for this part,we can say, there is no amount of abuse which can put a dent on this bad boy.

It comes with a true bypass switch. It can be powered either by a 9V battery which offers great portability or by a DC adapter. The only shortcoming we found is, mounting it on a pedal board might prove some inconvenience due to its size.

The moment you cast your eyes on the control panel you get an idea what this beast is capable of. There are several knobs located on the top of the pedal. To your surprise the gain knob is labeled as the Dist knob while the volume knob is labeled as it is. Then comes the three band EQ that’s rather responsive and precise. In the last there is a top boost knob with corresponding footswitch in the bottom of the pedal. In simple terms, you are getting two levels of gain in this box, one as a default and the other which you can switch on anytime when necessary. To critics it might look as an overkill but electro harmonix has put it together flawlessly.

It would be no exaggeration if we say that Electro Harmonix Metal Muff is the ultimate source of gain. It’s all you can ask from a Distortion pedal! To begin with, Metal Muff gives you a plexi like tone in the default mode. There is a lot of gain but it is well structured and balanced. When cranking up the dist knob clockwise it gives a smooth gain curve adding spice to the signal. Whereas the EQ section is nothing less than awesomeness. It not only helps in managing the gain but also offers colors of versatility.

Top Boost is where the metal muff touches heights of craziness. Right upto 10 o’clock position, this mode adds a whopping amount of dimension to the tone. But if you exceed this point things go a bit hectic. Overall this thing rocks n roll.

Electro Harmonix Metal Muff possesses great power, it can overwhelm you, if you dare to go too far. With that said, it gives the user a lot of freedom and versatility with most genuine Distortion effects we have heard so far.

Wampler Triple Wreck Modern Rectified Distortion Pedal
  • Hand made in the U.S.A.
  • High grade film capacitors and resistors picked for their superior sound and response
  • Completely true bypass
  • Battery connection and 9v power jack (barrel plug like Boss)
  • Boost Switch to give you extra gain / or Fuzz

Wampler isn’t a brand that releases guitar pedals very often but when it does, it gathers the attention of most in the market. Wampler triple wreck is one of the most capable and reliable pedals you can get for the metal tone. Let’s quickly take a look.

The moment you get into contact with this pedal you soon will realise that you are not dealing with an ordinary dist box. Wampler has taken things out of the box when it comes to the standard dist pedal design. Triple wreck is encased in a wide chassis with not so delicate graphics. It comes in a black simple yet clear exterior. The exterior is strong enough to be used as a deadly metal weapon. As you would expect there is nothing on stage which can break this sturdy boy.

Inputs and outputs ports are located in the back of the pedal, where you can also find a DC adapter port. To your surprise, this pedal can also be charged by a 9V battery regardless of its size.

Controls are probably what gives away the signature wampler triple wreck’s attitude. On the control panel we have simple volume and gain knobs beneath which three band EQ is positioned. Keep in mind surprises don’t end here, Wampler has installed two unique voicing options waiting for you to choose from. They are labelled as hard and brutal, each of these offers a unique gain curve.

Beside this, wampler went far with the mind blowing boost switch. Which seems a bit odd because wampler triple wreck is already a heavy gain pedal, but it adds on a whole new source of gain to slap its default levels. If we weren’t familiar with the wampler brand and model, the above build would sound completely foolish. However, it worked out beyond our expectations. Now whether its wampler reputation or its luck, all that matters is gain.

The results of wampler triple wreck has some similarity with the existing best metal amps. From what we have told you by now, you might have developed the perception that a triple wreck is just a raw gain pedal, which is difficult to harness or make sense of. But in reality, it sounds more like a 5150 on steroids. The unique hard mode offers a punch full of gain, fairly easy to use, while the brutal as label suggests takes the brakes off the bus. It would be fair to say adding EQ was a necessity. It not only helps you to adjust the tone closer to your ideal but  it also controls the entire gaim curve by smoothing it out. Wampler triple wreck allows greater versatility than it appears to be at first.

Wampler triple wreck is a unique, no-nonsense gain pedal you will find in the market. It sounds more like a proper tube amp and feels like a beast ready to unleash itself. With some experimentation you will be able to assess its strengths and friendliness as a stompbox.

MXR M116 Fullbore Metal Distortion
  • The super high-gain distortion Three band EQ with sweepable mid frequencies Tight, fast, switchable Noise Gate for syncopated metal.

You might be aware of the fact that MXR is best known for the modulation effects, they definitely know how to create a proper Distortion effect. MXR M116 Fullbore Metal is one of the best distortion pedals  used for heavier genres of music, while offering custombility of performance at its best.

Contemporary Distortion pedals are tricky piece of device hard to harness completely. Nowadays markets are full of Distortion pedals which offer  low quality and overly added gain to your signal. But when it comes to MXRM116 Fullbore Metal its not one of them. The pedal looks somewhat raw at first glance, though it comes in the usual MXR chassis. This time MXR has left the metal untreated rather than wrapping the pedal in black or orange. The metal body goes well with what this pedal is capable of.

In terms of durability it can cater any kind of abuse without leaving a dent on self. This is definitely the MXR kinda thing. As usual the pedal can be powered with a DC adapter or 9V battery.

When looking at the control panel it reveals something interesting,M116 has more potential than meets the eye. At your disposal you have standard volume and gain knob but this is not it. You have few other tools also available. MXR offers a three band EQ which is very responsive in nature and relatively covers a broad range. Next on the list is the frequency knob, which works in harmony with the mid knob, to shape up the frequencies ranging from 50Hz to around 200Hz.

Well there are two more knobs to uncover, one is labelled as gate and the other as scoop. The former serves as your noise gate and is pretty reliable. While scoop is pretty self explanatory, it scoops your mids. It might seem confusing to you, but once you start using the M116, things fall perfectly together and make sense.

What makes MXRM116 Fullbore Metal beautiful and unique is its wide range of versatility. The core sound comes in the form of signature distortion effect which balances out the gain and clarity of signal. With a number of controls available, you can dial in any tone to fit a variety of applications. In general, MXR distinguishes well between the useless gain and a proper distortion. What makes it even more desirable, is the economy it offers for a decent performance. Those who are fans of thrash metal can easily access it by tuning the scoop knob, while it also offers a thick, modern metal sound.

In a market full of uncontrollable gain bombs MXRM116 Fullbore Metal is your savior. It delivers the right amount of heat and offers necessary tools to harness the heavy gain, with the advantage of a reasonable price. In our books, it’s a perfect blend of performance and economy.

Rocktron Metal Planet Distortion Pedal
  • 4 Band EQ
  • Semi Parametric Mid EQ
  • Over the Top Distortion
  • Metal Chassis
  • Semi Parametric Mid EQ

Rocktron Metal Planet, has the term metal in its name and with no surprises offers face melting distortion. If that’s what you’re chasing, you will be pleased to know that this pedal is one of the  most capable distortion pedals in the market and thus makes a place on our list. Lets check it out.

Drifting away from the standard conventional metal pedals, Rocktron Metal Planet comes in a wide chassis with matt black finish. It offers nothing unusual when talking about the designs but once you lay your hands on this pedal it instills a new level of confidence in your performance. It is robust and sturdy in nature, capable of tolerating the standard level of abuse on the stage.

Inputs and outputs are located on the sides of the pedal, making the handling more convenient. In terms of power you have both options, either to use a DC adapter or a 9V battery. The battery compartment is made super easy which makes it a pretty practical pedal to use.

There are few features on the control panel which stands out. There is no top boost knob available for the starters which is popular nowadays. Instead all of the gain potential is mounted in the Distortion knob. Beside a level and bypass switch, there is four band EQ. Yes you heard it right, aside the regular Treble, Mid and Bass controls, you also get a Mid Frequency control. The latter serves as a filter, dictating that mids EQ.

Instead of messing the control panel with numerous dials, they have packaged all the features in two duel purpose knobs. While it might seem very practical on paper but can lead to serious confusion with adjusting the modes in a dark stage performance.

At first glance, we got a very raw and senseless impression of this Distortion pedal. But when it comes to performance, it offers a lot of interesting stuff.

For starters, the gain might feel overpowering, however after a few minutes of playing with control slowly you start to get hold of this beast. Once you understand the mechanics, you become capable of harnessing the massive gain and giving your music a perfect sense. It doesn’t take much time to figure out why they omitted the top boost, although it might have made the pedal more orderly. Currently the entire gain curve is available at your hands, which takes some time to master. At the end of the day, you can easily dial a variety of metal tones.

Rocktron Metal Planet might feel barbaric to you in first use. However the more you play with the controls the more it starts to make sense. With a massive low end, loads of gain and an extended EQ section, this pedal is definitely a force multiplier and real beast to unleash.

Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Distortion Guitar Pedal
  • The MT-2 provides super-long sustain and heavy mids and lows like a stack of overdriven amps.
  • The Package Height of the Product is 3 inches
  • The Package Length of the Product is 6 inches
  • The Package Width of the Product is 4 inches

The most popular distortion pedal for metal around the world is none other than the Boss Metal Zone MT-2. It is the prototype for all the distortion pedals, loved and hated by many. Lets check out what it has to offer us.

Boss is one of those brands which follows a signature style, it doesn’t apply to its circuitry rather its chassis design. Boss MT-2 comes in the same usual design, capable of enduring ultimate abuse on the stage. To be honest, by looks its not something extraordinary but that is not what boss is all about. What makes boss MT-2 the most recognizable pedal is its color code. Its comes wrapped in a sleek black finish with orange labels and markings. You just cannot miss it. In terms of power, you can use a 9V battery or a DC adapter. Overall it looks like an average boss package from the exterior.

Due to the space limitations, boss is forced to be creative in case of the control panel. Boss metal zone is a fine example of this creativity. In the making of boss metal zone they were challenged to cluster six knobs in a limited space. So they introduced two duel function knobs.

From left to right we see a level knob followed by a low/hi knob.next comes the mid section which houses both mid control and mid frequency control. Lastly we have  the gain knob labelled as Dist. In practical terms, these knobs are best to use in relaxed environments but when on stage it can be a real pain, as it gets difficult to make the appropriate adjustments. With that said, its best to find the settings of your choice beforehand, rather than messing with controls on stage.

When it comes to the performance, the sound of metal MT-2 revolves around great controversy and heated debate. One side claims the pedal to be a total trash will the other side claims it to be a reasonable tool. We personally are inclined towards the latter group. To be fair to the critics its extremely very easy to find a decent tone on this gear. However decent always does not contain a positive meaning. MT-2 is capable of some serious heavy gain, which makes it vital for you to understand its mechanics of playing. The only way to understand this beast is some time and experimentation. As you start messing around with controls soon you will realize how much versatility this pedal offers. Metal zone gives a very specialized effect but there is still room for further exploration. The only thing to be cautious about is your settings and the best way to do it, is to be slow and steady.

Metal Zone MT-2 is one of the iconic distortion boxes in the market. Though it requires some practice and effort on your part to master it, otherwise you might fall prey to nasty settings that do not match with the mix.

TC Electronic Dark Matter Distortion Effect Pedal
  • Gain, level, bass and Treble controls - total control of your distortion sounds
  • True bypass - Zero loss of tone
  • Voicing switch - for an awesome shift in bass response

When you are looking for portability, affordability and an effective distortion pedal, TC Electronic Dark Matter is your thing. At the moment its one of the best low budget choices if you are looking for a decent distortion box for metal. Lets take a closer look at what it has to offer with such an affordable price.

Where most guitar pedal brands are busy in recreating the vintage vibe TC Electronic Dark Matter is all about the future. That is, they are trying to invest as much performance as possible in a super portable size chassis. When it comes to TC Electronic Dark Matter, it is simple, portable and ultimately durable. It would be no less to say that its chassis boosts confidence in you and your performance.

When looking at the finishing of this dist box its not something eye-catching but yet again it has very nicely pulled off aesthetics out of simplicity. The labels and logo are painted with white color, that looks pretty fine. To be honest this box isn’t meant to be the feast for your eyes but its uncompromising gain is surely the cherry on topping.

The controls layout and selection is engineered according to the capabilities of this beast. There are four knobs in total, two of which are the standard volume and gain. While the other to form a two-band EQ which lacks mid controls. Now it might be a total turn off for some but the lack of mid in EQ does not affect the sound much. Keeping its signature style intact, TC Electronic Dark Matter has placed a toggle switch on the panel. Where usually on other pedals it works as a toneprint control but in TC Electronic Dark Matter it alters the low end. Or you can say it gives the sound a little bit more dimension and width.

Till now you must be curious about the sound of this pedal? Well answer to this question is, what is going to matter in the end. It sounds like a tube amp pushed to its limits, but it isn’t an overdrive rather shares some of its instincts. Whilst its an extremely versatile pedal, contrasting range from classic rock to modern metal. It all depends on the amount of gain you choose into tone and as well how much you dial into the EQ. The controls are easily comprehensible and with little experimentation you can easily pull over the desirable amount of gain. To be honest its far more capable of Distortion than we expected.

If we sum up, TC Electronic Dark Matter is the best choice for metal fans on a reasonable budget. It gives more than a pleasing amount of gain with extremely simple and practical controls. In short its a good deal with a reasonable level of performance.

BOSS DS-1X Special Edition Distortion Guitar Pedal, Single Mode
  • Special edition BOSS distortion Pedal with next-generation sound, feel, and tonal response
  • All-new design provides a superior playing experience that’s unattainable with analog distortion pedals
  • Powerful real-time processing adapts to your playing to provide ideal distortion tones in every register
  • Enjoy Perfect sounds over the entire Fretboard, from tight, crisp tones on the low strings to fat, singing tones on the highest notes
  • High-clarity distortion sound that’s never muddy or boomy, even when playing two or more notes at the same time

As you know Boss is one of the most popular brands in the market when it comes to guitar pedals. So is the Boss DS-1X is one of the most iconic pedals ever made. However despite the popular perception, Boss DS-1X is something completely different and new.

Today in this review we are going to prove that why you can never be wrong with Boss DS-1X. So Lets take a closer look.

Its popular that if you have seen one Boss pedal, you surely have seen them all. It is somehow true for most of the part. Boss DS-1X chassis is nothing new to witness. It’s the same old design we have seen a long time ago. As the color coding of Boss is almost the same, so many people confuse between Boss DS-1X and DS1. There is a very slight difference in the orange finish but its almost the same as classic DS1.

But once you cast your eyes on the controls you soon realise its completely different pedal that you might have ever seen. It can be powered by a 9V battery or a DC adapter. In terms of durability Boss has always proven to be the best.

When it comes to the design of Boss DS-1X, Boss has kept it as simple as possible. As Opposed to the recently launched models, DS-1X simplicity comes as a relief. It offers the standard level and gain knobs with a two EQ band. It might be disappointing for those who are fond of scooped mids but the simple selection of controls is one of the traits which makes this pedal an awesome choice. Level and dist knobs are pretty self explanatory. The low and high knobs have a lot of range, but they really don’t overlap much. When tuning fine tones the lack of mid control can be felt. Despite this fact Boss DS-1X is pretty responsive and user friendly, although it might take some of your time to get used to it.

Now coming to the performance of this pedal, if you are a fan of high gain, thick distortion this pedal is surely not your gear to buy. It is more tame than a beast. Its pretty good reminisce of the 80’s metal box. Think of Van Halen tones with a bit of clarity and sparkle in the trebles. If we see overall, Boss DS-1X responds well to both single coils and humbuckers, making it a decent choice for a wide range of users. Its not something extraordinary but it has a personality of its own which we have grown to like.

We can say Boss DS-1X is a perfect bridge between classic DS1 and your modern distortion pedal. Its simply reliable, user friendly and consistent. If you are a fan of more classic metal or just like a bit of it, Boss DS-1X is absolutely your gear to play with.

You might have not heard much about Fulltone OCD drive pedal but what has made it to our top 10 list today is its super smooth and well tamed overdrive with the capacity of turning into a beast when heavy gain is kicked in. It was initially not designed for heavy metal but is capable of adapting to any kind of heavy playing. Enough said, lets take a closer look.

Fulltone OCD drive comes in a beautifully compact yet sturdy white built, capable of enduring any kind of abuse on stage. Its control panel is very clean and neatly labelled in black color, with a ocd logo in the center of the pedal. When you first look at this dist box it seems like it does not have much to offer but once you plug it on, you get to see its real power. Fulltone has kept its design and manual very simple and clean. It is powered by either a 9V battery or DC adapter.

It comprises three knobs, which control the standard drive, tone and volume of your tone. There is also a switch for high and low peaks which take your performance from a clean overdrive to crazy gain. It also has a true bypass switch.

When talking about the performance and results of ocd, it is no exaggeration to say that it gives your tone the heavy crunch of an amp tube, as well as the sensitivity and response to your playing style. What we like most is how this dist box gives you plenty of tonal range when you switch into quieter passage. Lower volume does not mean you miss out rather you can play a lot of songs with peaks and troughs.

What makes it a best choice is its exceptionally smooth overdrive with the capacity to handle any type of heavy playing and its sustainable tonal range at low volumes.

The control panel features fives knobs and a true bypass switch. All the knobs are clearly labelled and placed without jumbling up the controls in less space. It has an output and distortion switch which is self explanatory. It also features a three band EQ and a dedicated frequency control knob that allows for an impressive distortion adjustment range. The three EQ knobs are the bass, mid and treble. What’s best about MXR M75 is that it makes it possible to sweep the medium frequencies to create an even crunchier and extraordinary sound.

Now you might be thinking what it sounds like? There is only one word to define it as a ‘ true badass’ performer. It gives an extensive tonal range with a perfect heavy gain and metal distortion. This who like to play with mids this beast is for them to unleash. The only downside which we could find is that it takes a bit of time messing around with this beast to master. We think that is not a problem once you uncover this dist box true potential.

At the end of the day, we must say you can never go wrong with MXR M75 if you are into heavy metal. This badass distortion pedal is really going to burn up your performance to the next level. In short, its box of great versatility and heavy gain.

What makes this pedal on our list is its ability to deliver exceptionally high gain and offers two channels for switching between clean and heavy playing. We must say if you are a fan of heavy gain and love creating exceptions then you won’t regret buying it.

What makes a good metal tone?

Distortion as a guitar effect, has gained popularity in recent years. Although it’s applicable in other genre music, its most popular use is by metal players. The question ‘what makes a good metal tone?’ is controversial in nature. Who will not like a proper tube amplifier to get all of its music needs filled by its dirty channels? The only problem with those amplifiers is that they cost a great deal of money. A more affordable option to get ur metal pangs fulfilled is by a good Distortion pedal. In this way you dont need an amplifier to take care of your gain needs, the dist pedal does it all

Here we want to mention that you cannot compare a distortion pedal with a dynamic range of proper tube amp. If given the choice most of the guitar players will go with an amp because it offers much higher resolution, wider range tone than a distortion pedal ever can. In short distortion pedals are just a mini version of amps but it doesn’t mean u cannot get awesome results with it.

How to dial in a good metal tone?

As mentioned earlier there is no clear definition of a good metal tone. Although some mistakes should be avoided while playing the heavy game of metal. The issue with distortion pedal is also one of the factors which makes it a success ls its heavy gain. Usually beginners indulge loads of gain in their signal then scoop the mids and max out bass and treble, it may sound great in your private space but would not work on the stage.

Now here’s a trick, when you add gain to your sound signal, you are actually reducing the resolution of your tone. The best you can do is to feed in a balance gain to your guitar signal that doesn’t drown out its tone. That is just by reducing the gain to a sensible level will surely make you stand out from the rest of the band much easier. So simply put, adjusting  a balanced gain can yield a very powerful guitar tone that actually lacks nothing.

Choosing the right pedal when playing metal

Now the question, how to choose the best distortion pedal which assures to cater all your metal needs relies heavily on your personal preferences. Your choice is also limited to the genre of metal and your role in the band. For starters its better to find out something neutral and less wild. By this we mean a distortion pedal which isn’t too heavy on gain and have some decent tone shaping options.

The last thing you should consider while choosing ur distortion pedal is noise. In more casual environment you can get away with it but on a stage its just turns into getting hit by rotten tomatoes. Most of the models on the review list are mostly quiet, some more than other. Like the MXR M116 Fullbore metal comes with a noise gate which definitely controls excessive noise in the signal.

Minimising the effect of gain on your tone

Gain is like a sharp double edged sword, it is so easy to go overboard without even noticing. What turns gain into a wild beast is that many guitarists put the distortion plug straight into a clean channel which as result offers the fastest route to half decent tone. What’s wrong with this method is that it can overwhelm you in a matter of seconds.

A much better remedy is to plug your distortion box in a dirty channel of amplifier. This way you are not adding the amp with outside gain rather using it as a boost to your dirty channel. The only caution you can take is to dial in a balanced gain on your distortion box and you can nail your performance by such an ease.

Are distortion pedals useful in a more serious setup?

As said earlier, the ultimate way to switch in distortion in your music signal is by using a good tube amplifier but this doesn’t make the distortion pedals useless. Nothing is useless in this world what matter is our preferences are . In simple analogy, a chef will use all the required spices to cook a special dish but he might add more of his favourite herbs. Same is the case with guitarists they might use different sources of distortion to add in their performance but for added pinch of girth might use a distortion pedal.

It will be no exaggeration to say that distortion pedals are a secret shortcut to a rock on metal performance. Not only said that its a great tool to hold command on the gain in general. The models which we have enlisted today are the best you can find in the market. We have reviewed models from a variety of price ranges, thus ensuring everyone can get their hands on these pedals regardless of their budget. So if you are planning to enter into the world of metal, any of the distortion pedal from the above list will prove your best friend and give you endless heavy tone gain that actually rocks a metal performance.

Boss is a big name in the world of guitar industry, as far as loop pedals are concerned, boss is one of the top manufacturers of these devices and their RC-3 Loop station is a perfect combo of high quality, affordable price, advanced functions and user friendly. So without wasting more time talking, let’s check out what this little beast has to offer us.

Coming with a compact design and signature Boss sturdy metal casing, we are looking at classic Boss casing with a sensual red finish. This looper pedal is strong and reliable, and most durable even in the long run. It operates a stereo device with two inputs and a pair of outputs, giving the player the opportunity to plug in a separate microphone and add a whole other instrument into the looper, as well as operate with stereo rigs.

What’s essential, the device comes with a large internal memory, with a storing capacity of three hours of stereo quality recording through 99 built-in memory slots. Also in the package its offers a rhythm guide with real drum sounds. It also has a special port 2.0 allocated for USB, connecting it with a PC for import and export of music files. Now the most exciting feature worth mentioning is the tap tempo- it allows to manually set the loops tempo by tapping it through the footswitch. Finally, it offers a five-year Boss warranty in the given price.

What we liked most about the controls is how Boss managed to spread the footswitch related functions around despite utilising just a single footswitch. So the big button on the control panel happens to start recording (one tap) and stop it (two taps). For allocation of recorded loops onto memory, the player is given two buttons to select one of the 98 available slots.

It also has a separate button for saving the melody into the desired memory slot, which also functions as a delete button if pressed for a longer time. Finally there is an output knob, which determines the level of effects audio present in the mix. It also offers a special input jack  for connecting an extra footswitch to separate the stop or memory shift feature.

The performance of a good looper is assessed by how the recorded part sounds, it should be natural, organic and not too plastic. The RC-3 clearly stands on these grounds with a clear sonic punch and being user friendly. The best feature about this device is the quality of rhythm tracking is on a high level, which is a rare feature found in smaller stomp boxes like this. The built-in three hour recording time is more than enough for an average user to consume and provides more than enough space for storing a significant database.

We must say for Rc-3 is value for money, you won’t regret your money for RC-3 sonic punch to your style. It has all the essential functions of recording and looping tracks, and inumalates it with the advanced features such as stereo inputs, internal memory, on board drums and much more. This pedal surely covers the playing needs of the majority of the users out there, if you are in search of a looper pedal you can never go wrong with Boss RC-3 Loop station.

Nux Loop Core is the best choice for users who are in pursuit of an advanced yet budget friendly loop box.Coming in an unusual yellow metal casing, this stompbox is capable of combining high quality sounds with advanced features of storing the loops to memory or tap tempo feature. If the basic looper does not facilitate your needs and you are a bit low on budget then Nux Loop Core is a valid choice for you. Lets have a closer look.

The pedal comes in a sturdy metallic casing, capable of enduring a decent punch on the stage. In our books, its highly durable and worthy device to rock your performances on stage or in studio settings. Its should be noted that here we are dealing with a stereo device that is having two inputs and two outputs. It allows you to run the pedal in stereo rig on side while you can add additional instruments to the loop on the input side.

Nux Loop Core offers a recording capacity of 6 hours of stereo or mono audio, which is more than enough for live stage performances and quite enough for storing a large database of recorded loops. For storage purpose it offers a 99 set of memory slots

The pedal also offers onboard drum patterns, with tap tempo feature that allows you to manually select the desired tempo of the loop audio without affecting the key. Besides this you can easily import and export loops via PC, as well as plug an optional extension pedal for additional control. Loop core is powered by either a DC adapter or a 9V battery making it feasible for performances both on stage or studio recordings.

Loop care is a one switch pedal but the manufacturer was wise enough to separate the save and delete functions and assign them separate buttons. This means that the frontal switch is solely used for the purpose of turning on and ending the recordings of the loop unless a tap tempo switch is used.

Up and down buttons are used for searching the desired memory slot, and a separate knob is designated for adjusting the level of rhythm loop. When mentioning rhythm, the device offers a total of 40 on board drum patterns to choose from the rhythm button.

You will be surprised to know that the pedal offers a very smooth and naturalistic sound or the loop, even when effects are added to the music it still gives a very organic and natural sonic output of the loop that remains natural and is easy to adapt to a variety of effects. We personally are not impressed by the rhythm function and the audio it offers, so we do not recommend it for live stage performances though it can be used for practise at home or studio.

At the end of the day its a fair deal for the listed price. If you are looking for advanced functions looper pedal but want to spare your $100 then you must check out this rockstar. Also if you are a fan of yellow then what are you waiting for.

If you are someone who is amazed by simplicity and concise features then we recommend TC Electronic Guitar Ditto to you. Featuring super classy looks and with just a single button and a single knob this lil little monster is capable of great performance. Guitar ditto is one of the top knotch and most effective looper pedals available in the market.

As we know this device is the name of simplicity it lacks some of the advanced features making it the best choice for the beginners and players who prefer simplicity with their loopers. But do not misjudge its simplicity for an average performance, its sound is no where near to the beginner level. Enough said lets find out what this lil devil is capable of.

The first thing as soon as you cast your eyes on this device you will notice an incredible craftsmanship and most trendy looks. The beautiful metal chassis of Guitar ditto gives you an impression of its sturdiness, durability and reliability as a looper pedal. Seeing the simplicity of this stompbox leaves no doubt that it’s a mono pedal. Now you must be wondering what does we mean by mono pedal, i-e it has only one input and only one output. Its not a problem for many players, it means you can only plug in one instrument in the looper and connect it with only one output device.

The guitar ditto gives only 5mins of loop time, which we think is more than enough for live shows. Besides this it gives uncountable overdubs and undo or redo edits, which again is an essential feature. It also has a true bypass switch and is powered by a 9V battery which is not included in the package.

As we said earlier guitar ditto is crafted in the simplest form, it has only one footswitch, one knob and a status LED indicator and that’s all. We think this is all most guitarists need to play. The level knob adjusts the level of loop effect in your audio output while the footswitch controls most of the work. Pressing the footswitch once begins the recordings while tapping it fast twice ends the recordings you previously started thus making a loop. Finally in order to delete the loop just press the button for a few seconds.

If we have to say something about its performance quality, we must say it does the job well! It gives a beautiful high quality sound, the recorded audio that gets mixed in the loop is absolutely natural, organic and close to the original. We must say we got no complaints here. Besides this, it also performs exceptionally well when combined with other effects, with zero sonic interference in the loop signal.

At the end of the day, although this device offers basic functions but keeping performance and controls in mind it is the most efficient pedal in this price, or you can say it truly delivers best in price it offers. It uses high quality electronics and wiring, making it more durable and reliable.

Fender Blender Custom Fuzz Pedal
  • Enhanced version of original.
  • Now with true-bypass and better battery access.
  • Over-the-top Fuzz / Octave / Sustain!
  • Selectable Boost Volume

Electro harmonix 720 stereo looper comes in a small package with most advanced features . Its common to find basic functions in stomp boxes of this size but this looper has boggle our mind with surprise. When talking about sound quality is great, offers great durability and reliability most of all gives a user friendly interface, we don’t have much to complain about. Enough of chattering let’s take a closer look.

Electro harmonix 720 stereo looper gives a twelve minutes of looping time with a string of ten independent loops, which we think is more than enough for any player to rock on. Apart from this, it offers overdubs, unlimited undo and redo editing and some special features like reverse and half speed.

The reverse button, reverse plays the loop you just recorded and creates some crazy sounds. The ½ speed button is pretty understandable; it reduces the loop speed by 50%. Its a stereo device, having two inputs and outputs, allowing you to plug in several instruments to the stompbox as well as connecting it to other devices. A separate input is also available for connecting it to an optional footswitch. The device comes with a DC adapter and can be also powered by a 9V battery.

The control interface 0f 720 has two footswitches, which makes it easier to use the looper. Here,it’s incredible to find out two foot switches in a looper of this size. It means that tapping the same switch twice for executing the desired function now with two switches you can commence the loop recording at one side and stop it with another switch.

There is also an option given to select the desired operation mode using the mode control and the level knob as u know controls the amount of loop injected into the audio output.

When it comes to performance, it delivers top quality sound, that is authentic, natural and organic in its kind. But what left us astonished is that the quality of sound remains high even when the two special features are used. Even in reverse play the sound does not give a digital or robotic effect rather stays original and natural.

However, we think that the user friendly interface and the quality of sound are the two major assets of 720 stereo looper, the two unique features of reverse and ½ are great but soon the player’s curiosity to experiment with it will fade away. Besides this as we said earlier its highly durable and reliable both by looks and machinery.

At the end we must say it’s a pro level option and is truly worth the price. We think it’s enough to satisfy your heart while buying this lil daredevil.

Digitech is the company having a fair share in the loop pedal market, thanks to its incredible craftsmanship combined with high quality audio sound and all this available at a fair price makes it on our list today.

Digitech JMEXTV JamMan Express XT promises to cover the needs of guitarists of all levels and styles, whether you are a beginner or pro JMEXTV JamMan Express XT can be your go to thing. We are super excited to review this awesome looper pedal, so without wasting any further time lets check it out.

It comes in a beautiful sleek blue metal chassis with jam max express xt logo imprinted in the centre of pedal. Being stereo in nature the pedal offers a pair of inputs and outputs. This allows. You can plug two instruments into your stompbox and as well utilise your stompbox into the stereo rig, which is the most demanding feature of pro musicians.

Digitech fella has a storing capacity of 10mins of stereo quality audio recordings, which is more than enough for any player. It also offers unlimited overdubs and undo or redo edits. Here we are dealing with a true bypass pedal with a single footswitch switch. It has separate LED status indicators for recording, overdubs and play modes, making it easier to harness this beast.

As in most of the compact size loopers the controls are basic and precise yet most efficient. This Digitech monster has only one knob, the level knob to adjust the amount of loop effect that is injected into the final audio mix.

Usually the footswitch serves the function of on and off while incase of this device there is more to the switch button then meets the eyes. It rather performs three functions; tapping the switch once begins the recording of the loop segment, tapping it twice ends the recording you started earlier while holding the button for a few seconds will delete the loop making new space for new audio. Moreover, tapping the button after the loop is recorded will set loop playback on and while tapping it for the third time will start recording of an overdub layer.

Now coming to performance, it records the sound in the most clear, natural and organic manner ensuring zero sonic interference and bad noise in the audio signal. It gives a 10mins loop time which we think is more than enough for 99% players. We can conclude that this device will cover your back well while a crazy bombastic performance.

We must conclude that JMEXTV JamMan Express XT gives brilliant performance for the money charged. What’s best about this product is that it has all the basic functions with a simple control panel and good sound quality. If you are not looking for something very advanced or pro than this device is your mate.

Those guitarists among you who love experimenting and playing out of the box, Vox has crafted VLL1 to satisfy your thirst for music. Vox VLL1 is the name of versatility and its loaded with a number of guitar effects centred around the looper. By now many of you might be thinking with so much to offer in one pedal it will be difficult to handle, but to your surprise this device is easy to use and navigate.

We decided to unleash this beast and check it out what it has to offer us. So let’s start over with its detailed review.

Vox VLL1 is a dual pedal device, loaded with a variety of effects and loop functions. In total it has 12 super cool effects which u can inculcate in your performance and combine them to create 90secs of loops through two independent channels.

Here you can also make additional overdubs with further undo and redo edits. Vox VLL1 also features Qauntize; that allows you to create phrases of any desired length within the given limits or to put it simply, synchronise the two recorded loops into tempo of your choice. Vox VLL1 features two inputs; an instrument input and an XLR mic input, allowing you to add up to sound sources to your looping mix.

Mostly loop pedals come with basic controls but that’s totally not the case with Vox VLL1, though it does not take long to get used to this beast. The two foot switches are responsible for controlling the recordings on both available channels while the two knobs are used for selecting the desired guitar effects and controlling the amount of loop signal injected into your final audio output.

To manage the tempo of recording an additional feature includes a built-in metronome, as well as an auto recording option and a clear button to delete the recorded loop. The footswitches are user friendly and serve the following functions; tap once to start recording, tap twice to stop and hold for a few seconds for undo or redo edits.

As far as sound quality is expected its best option for the beginners or intermediate players. We cannot compare its sound quality with hi end devices but it delivers fairly good quality natural and organic sound to quench the thirst of starters. Moreover its gives them an authentic and classic experience to deal with mixing a variety of guitar effects with a looper.

Well at the end of the day, we must say this pedal offers more than its value. If you are a beginner and want to experiment with new grounds this is surely your go to looper and we promise you won’t regret buying this beast as your first looper pedal.

It’s a mono device, meaning it has only one input and out hence only one instrument can be plugged in and  supports no stereo rigs, which we think is not an issue for most of the guitarists.

One thing which we love most about this micro buddy is the memory feature, which stores the loop even when power is cut out it won’t harm your performance. It also provides an 11inch 1/4inch cable at this price which we think is a nice deal.

The controls of this micro fella are basic, simple, effective and on point. It has one knob and standard controls which we think satisfies the needs of the vast majority of guitarists and moozikpro got it all. Specifically it got a single knob to adjust the amount of loop in your audio output, a single footswitch and a status LED indicator.

As far as single footswitch is concerned it performs the usual three functions; tap once to start recording, tap twice to stop and hold it for a few seconds to delete the loop. Although it requires a bit of tap dancing, we think it’s not a big deal for most of us.

When talking about sound quality its great, it’s absolutely authentic and organic in nature regardless of the sound effects you think to add on. Other than this, the controls are smooth and user friendly.

When thinking of buying a new pedal the most important factor is to consider the budget and price and we think you can not get a better deal than moozikpro at this price. What makes it on our list is its micro size, good sonic quality and easy to use device. We know its a one switch pedal but still at this price you can not get a better option than moozikpro. So what are you waiting for? Just go for it!

Way Huge WHE401 Swollen Pickle Jumbo Fuzz
  • Super high-gain fuzz with smooth low end.

We believe the needs of many guitarists are covered by more basic models of loopers while Digitech Jam Man is the blue-eyed puppy of most advanced users! So if you are in search of a sophisticated looper equipment then Digitech Jam Man might be the right choice for you. Without a second thought its one of the best looper pedals available in the market and that’s why it makes it to our list of top ten loopers. Enough said, let’s find what we have in our hands.

It comes in a beautiful glossy blue metal chassis, at first glance it might seem very complex device to you but in actual its more user friendly than most of the single switch loopers.

The device has 99 memory slots and allows you to record up to 35mins of stereo quality audio. What’s exciting here is, the device allows you to use an optional SDHC card and gives an additional storage of 99 memory slots to store a new load of 16 hours of CD quality music, allowing you to make your own looping library. In order to manage your looping library Digitech has launched an Jammanager Loop Librarian software in the package.

One of the most prominent features is the tap tempo, which enables you to manually adjust the tempo of your loops. Another interestingly cool feature is the Reverse button, which allows you to reverse play your recorded loops.

When we look at the control panel it’s packed with many buttons, but do not worry most of these buttons are the standard loop controls packed within a single footswitch, but separated by operations for much easier use.

The upper front of the panel houses four foot switches to control your recording, tempo and loop selection, enabling you to easily switch loops while performing. You can also prepare ahead of the gig not just for single loops. Whereas the rest of the buttons controls the level of loop and rhythm injected in your audio output. All the controls are pretty easy to use and  pretty understandable once you lay your hands on this lil monster.

We can control ourselves to give this device a 10 outta 10! At the end it just steals the show! This device is incredibly easy to use and rock. Besides recording single loops it also allows you to craft a single man show with a series of recorded loops you can record ahead the jamming. The sound quality is nothing less than exceptional, the recorded footage sounds the same as the original. The audio out is very natural and organic no matter how many other effects you add on.

If you are looking for a looper power house then this fella is your army to master the art of looping. It delivers high sound quality, offers high durability and reliability at the most affordable price. Even with such great looping powers it comes in a compact size and which is almost unimaginable. It stands high on all the crucial points which gives this fella a thumbs up from our side and we highly recommend it.

Till now you will be aware about the quality and performance Electro harmonix has to offer its users. The 360 Nano looper is another incredible creation by electro-harmonix, if you are solo or street performer this nano stompbox is all you need to rock your performance. So without wasting time lets check this nano fella out.

While the loop knob selects the loop number: 1-11. When scrolling through loops, the MEM LED flashes quickly during transitions. If the loop has no recorded memory, the MEM LED remains off. If the loop has recorded memory, the MEM LED remains on and playback can begin. Besides this, the pedal has a ¼” input on the right side and a ¼” output on the left. The AC adapter jack is at the front.

When it comes to the performance it delivers high quality sound of recorded loops. The 360 Nano Looper owes its name to the ability to record loops up to 360 seconds in length, which can be divided into 11 different loops for maximum control and flexibility. They are stored onboard in 24-bit/44.1KHz .WAV format.

Each loop can be edited with undo/redo function and gives unlimited overdubbing with no degradation in fidelity. The recorded loops are automatically saved to the slot indicated by the right knob. The user friendly design of 360 nano looper makes it easy for the users to record a loop, overdubbing, undo-redo and erasing a loop quickly and alot more easier. The down road is that due to its nano size the pedal doesn’t work on batteries and the AC adapter has to be bought separately.

At the end of the day, the 360 nano looper is the best option for you, if you are trying your luck in a street performance or like giving solo performances. With its super compact size and affordable price with high quality looping sound this pedal makes its way on our top ten looper pedals.

Things to consider when buying a looper pedal

Just like the other pedals, a looper pedal has its own essential features to look for when buying one. Many people have their own choice and preferences but we have drawn some most desirable traits to look for when buying a looper box.

First and most important, the recorded sound should be authentic, natural and organic in nature. Any sort of sonic interference is considered a total turn off for us, and in today’s review we eliminated all the loopers who didn’t match this basic demand.

Now comes the time to answer the question of whether you need a more advanced looper or the one which just performs the basic standard functions. Like a tap tempo or reverse button is something many users hunt for in a looper pedal.

Beside this, users look for the durability, feasibility, reliability of the circuits, value offered for money and somehow good looks on the outer too. While making the loopers list we kept the sound quality top priority among all the other aspects .

What difference does the number of footswitches make?

In short, more switches means more control. The footswitches carry multi purpose functions, for instance, start recording, stop the playback, erasing the loop and more. We recommend its much easier and convenient to use at least two switches. Manufacturers are well aware of this fact and thats why most of the expensive models utilise three foot switches.

Now you might think single footswitch models are useless, well to your surprise they are not! You just have to learn a little tap dance to get a hang on them. If you are on a tight budget you can look for single switch models which support external switches to connect to your looper.

Does loop length matter?

You should not worry about the loop timing as most of the pedals, even low budget stompboxes, offer a 10mins loop timing which is more than enough for any user.

Does storage capacity matter?

Most pedals do not offer internal storage once switched off you lose your recorded loop. But if you are interested in saving loops for future loops then you must search for a looper which offers internal storage. Some models have internal built-in space while the more advanced models supports external SDHC card

Difference between mono n stereo loops

The mono loop has only one input and only one output while the stereo loop has two inputs and two outputs. Which means you can add more than one instrument to your looper and stereo outputs allow you to run the pedal through a stereo rig or through separate amps.

What’s the best way to use a loop pedal

Many new musicians get confused with the question ‘can we use looper in a studio setting?’ well to be honest its pointless to use. The main function of looper is to create a backing rhythm section while you are performing on stage whereas in studio settings you can easily record as many backtracks as you want but in live performances the story is different.

So the best way to use a loop pedal is during live performances or while busking on your own. Many street performers rely on loopers for exceptional results keep that in mind.

Beside being used in stage performances, loopers can be used by beginners and amateurs to practice their gigs on. You can use a loop pedal to practice guitar solos by recording rhythm parts to spin around until you nail the stuff. If your pedal has the ability to import audio files, you can also take the song you like and dissect it through pitch- and tempo-changing features.

How much should i invest to get a good looper pedal

Well it all depends on your budget and what features you want. You can easily get the basic one footswitch looper in $70-$80. And if you want something more advanced and packed with multiple features and good looks then $500 can get you to buy your dream.

Do I need additional accessories to buy with my looper pedal?

Well not really! You will only have to buy a DC adapter and 9V battery which usually doesn’t come in the given price. You will also need to buy a pair of cables to connect the looper with your guitar or amp or recording tool.

At the end of the day, finally we have completed our review of top 10 best looper pedals available in the market . Now all you have to do is grab a pen and paper, jot down your personal needs, preferences and your available budget and viola select the looper which best fits your taste. We hope you enjoyed the crazy loopers ride and stay tuned for future updates.

Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker
  • The Tone switch completely removes the tone control providing you with a devastating broadband Big Muff slam!
  • When the Wicker switch is off and the Tone switch is on you have the original Big Muff Pi
  • True Bypass
  • Battery Power with optional US96DC-200BI power supply

In our view Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi needs no introduction, it has a name of its own. And It will be no less calling it the great daddy of fuzz pedals available in the market. The popularity of Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi can be assessed by, even those who are not a fan of fuzz effects our curious to try it. It’s not a new name, Big Muff Pi has remained in the market for decades and is one of the dream pedals of guitar enthusiasts

To assess how big an impact this stompbox has on the industry can be seen by the fact that all the modern fuzz pedals use the blueprint of Big Muff Pi directly or indirectly. We are not emphasizing that it’s the only best fuzz pedal you can find, But Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi is the big daddy of all the legendary fuzz pedals available in the market. Now, let’s find out where this huge reputation came from.

When it comes to modern pedals they are usually built on following the boss format. But Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi the little monster is not what you are expecting. It is one big sucker which is not light in weight. This stompbox is made of alloy metal that is capable of bearing the load only a heated rock stage can deliver, and still walk out unharmed.

The graphic design gives a vintage taste and hasn’t really changed since it was first released. When specifically you look at features, it has a very simple circuitry and equally simple exterior design. The top panel has three knobs beside the stomp switch but what really worth mentioning here is the true bypass switch. Yes! You heard it right. The bypass switch is luxury and so many modern pedals do not offer this crucial feature. This big monster is powered by a 9v battery or a 9v power supply, it’s up to you which one you find suitable according to your setup needs.

When it comes to controlling panels, Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi is the name of simplicity and convenience. As mentioned above, it comes with three main knobs to work with. The volume switch is quite intelligible and it regulates your mastery level. The tone and sustain knobs are where all the fun and experimenting can be done. The tone knob helps you to set the level of distortion in your signal.

Turn up the tone knob, to experience a new level of heavy rock fuzz where turning it down will lower the fuzz and make things more civilized and soothing. Tone knob has the power of taking you anywhere from one extreme to another.

When it comes to performance, vintage rough fuzz is all this pedal is about. The tonal variety and possibilities you can experiment will keep you engaged for sometime. When you start messing with the tone knob, it’s a noisy pedal and gives u a kick start. However when you crank it down you are again in a safe zone

Even after ruling the industry for so many years, Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi has never disappointed or lost its charm in the market. It has always been the foremost choice when it comes to fuzz pedals.

The diversity of tones and its unique vintage style, many have envied upon and tried to replicate but namely only a few were successful in this errand. As explained above its truly your gateway model to the world of fuzz.

ZVex Fuzz Factory when compared to other popular fuzz pedals, is neither too old nor came into limelight because of it  being used by famous guitarists.Where it stands now, is purely due to the quality and effects it has delivered to its customers, which everyone needed but no one dared to deliver.

ZVex Fuzz Factory originates back to the 90’s when everyone was taken back by the distortion pedal. Many manufacturers were experimenting on distortion pedals and this is where ZVex Fuzz Factory found its way in the market. It was publicized as an old school fuzz box with great potential. To your surprise,This is what exactly happened.

As soon as you cast your eyes on this mighty pedal, you realize that there is nothing conventional in it. It comes in a rectangular chassis and has no similarity in shape and design with other fuzz pedals. The body which covers the internal electronics is made for a heavy-duty purpose and lively graphics are printed on the case. Whereas the original models were mostly hand-painted.

When it comes to internal mechanics, ZVex Fuzz Factory is installed with two germanium transistors. Keep in mind, in those days germanium transistors were dropped over the silicone ones. But now builders have somewhat again started using this rare material. ZVex Fuzz Factory houses five knobs which we are just going to explain in the control section.

Each of the five knobs is labeled quite indistinctly except for the volume. The gate and compression knobs are responsible for adjusting the transistor bias. Then, there is drive that controls the level of input signal and stability of sound. The last knob on the pedal regulates the voltage supply to the circuit.

Individually adjusting each knob will noticeably change the tone of the pedal but also the adjustments on other knobs will overall change the impact of the performance. It might sound a bit complicated but once get hang of it, you will be unstoppable.

The range of tone and effects you can get from this little monster is so diverse and wide that it’s hard to describe here. Having four signal shaping controls gives it the power to create different dimensions of variety that you can bang on at any given time. The core tone is a warm and rounded germanium fuzz, that’s truly a die for sound. What this beast is capable of is totally up to you.

Where ZVex stands now in industry is the outcome of their one of the best creations that is the ZVex Fuzz Factory. They have built many models on the blueprint of this pedal.Fuzz factory did not take long to climb the ladder of most wanted fuzz pedals-a reputation it holds to this day.

Whether or not it’s a good choice as your first fuzz pedal is questionable to us, but those who have developed a taste in germanium style will simply love it and is a must pick for them.finding a pure and versatile model like ZVex Fuzz Factory is not rare but still it has a reputation of its own when it comes to guitar effects.

EarthQuaker Devices Hoof V2 Germanium/Silicon Hybrid Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal
  • Features a hybrid Germanium/Silicon design, pairing maximum tone with maximum temperature stability
  • Wide gain range provides everything from amp-like overdrive to monstrous fuzz madness
  • Features a smooth, natural and harmonically rich sustain
  • Generates real clarity and distinctiveness that provides a tight and controlled signal that will surely be heard through the mix
  • Scoop the mids or boost them--lots of tonal shaping options are on tap

It’s no secret that many fuzz pedals are designed and built on the  blueprint of Big Muff Pi circuit. Now the question arises, how well have they succeeded in executing the same job as original? Well to add on list, EarthQuaker Hoof have managed to add value of its own to this popular list.

Well this has completely pushed Big Muff circuitry to something new and exciting by creating competition in the industry. This is the main reason that Hoof Fuzz has climbed its way upto the top go-to pedal and has earned a reputation of the best model found.

Due to its bold move and exceptional capabilities Hoof Fuzz is also on our top 10 review list.So what are you waiting for?Let’s have a look!

In contrast to the fuzz pedals available in market, EarthQuaker Devices Hoof comes in a standard size which is pedalboard friendly and doesn’t occupy much space. The case is very well designed, with four knobs on the top panel along with an activation switch. The pedal is designed very simplistically , where as the graphic gives you an idea of what you are dealing with.

The Hoof features a hybrid Germanium/Silicon design, pairing maximum tone with maximum temperature stability. It assures to deliver the same smooth and naturally rich sustain as your friends. For as much as with a wide gain range, it provides everything from amp-like overdrive to monstrous fuzz madness.

One of its best features is the true analog bypass switch, once its off, there is no residual effect on the signal chain.

The control panel features four more or less standard knobs with the exception of one.Tone knob enables you to adjust the amount of treble and bass depending on what kind of sound you want. The ‘level’ determines your output level and ‘Fuzz’ determines the level of saturation in your signal.

Above were the standard functions. The ‘shift’ knob is where the fun begins. Interestingly, this knob acts as a filter of sorts, allowing you to scoop or boost the mids. Combining ‘shift’ with ‘fuzz’ you can create a wide range of tones in no time.

Every time a fuzz pedal with this type of rich controls comes, the tonal and sound quality becomes the first concern. Fortunately, EarthQuaker Devices Hoof is so well designed and equipped, that no matter what you do, the warmth of fine fuzz tone is never compromised. The only thing that changes is how aggressive and wild you want the vocals to be.

EarthQuaker Devices has tried to compact a lot of features and performance in this pedal, which can be tamed with the controls provided on the pedal. Hoof being an extremely versatile device, has brought it into the eyes of the community.Nowadays it’s really hard to find quality fuzz boxes in the market, and this one just easily wipes off the inefficient ones.

To assess how good EarthQuaker Devices Hoof is, can be concluded from the fact that a lot of famous guitar players put it on comparison with the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi.Which itself is a big honor for any fuzz pedal in industry. Whether or not it’s worth it, is quite a subjective choice but anyone with an experience of fuzz pedals will recommend that its one of the most powerful models in the market. If you have the chance to pick one of these, just don’t miss it! It’s worth every penny to say the least

Fender Blender Custom Fuzz Pedal
  • Enhanced version of original.
  • Now with true-bypass and better battery access.
  • Over-the-top Fuzz / Octave / Sustain!
  • Selectable Boost Volume

Most guitarists are not aware of the fact that Fender produces effects too. One of their most freaky creations is the Fender Blender. They weren’t just happy in building a simple fuzz pedal rather they moved a step forward and created a box full of crazy effect combos.

Over the years Fender Blender has become quite famous in the industry and its fuzz effects are hard to replace.

Apparently it’s one of the most unusual looking guitar pedals you might have come across. It resembles more like a vintage amp switch rather than a guitar pedal. The pedal aluminium case makes it look very fragile but it can easily carry its weight on the stage.

It is equipped with germanium transistor and comes with an old school true bypass circuit. There are a total four standard knobs for tone shaping, but what makes it stands out is the second foot switch.this feature is the true reason why they are still in high demand.

In terms of controls, things are pretty straightforward and simple. There is a volume knob which is pretty intelligible. Next to it is a sustain control knob which functions as exactly labelled. When you crank it clockwise, you will hear a lot of sustain as the pedal is boosting the fading signals.Next to it is the tone knob, that controls the sound from low to treble.whereas the blend knob mixes the raw and processed signals together.

The Tone Boost switch is a game changer,it adds an octave effect to the fuzz, which makes the Fender Blender hard to harness at first. However the key to mastery is patience and practise.Once you achieve it you can produce any tone you wish for.

Fender Blender has the capability of producing a sheer vintage sound at the same time adding a wild dimension to it. There is enough gain to go as aggressive as you want and the additional tone boost features enable you to hit another level of craziness while performing.

It’s very important to note here that you should not take it as an ordinary fuzz stompbox. It has a nature of its own and the power to be either your best friend or your worst enemy.Fender Blender is still a Hit in the market due to its dynamic tone and richness that is nearly hard to copy these days.

Fender Blender is not the beginners cup of tea rather its a top choice for the seasoned players who will enjoy and understand its potential to fullest. This model is a proof that old school fuzz will never go obsolete. If you are looking for something old school and reliable, this pedal is your thing.

As the brand name of  Dunlop conveys a class of its own, so does its JDF2 Face is a name of excellence and versatility. Very few Vintage fuzz pedals have found its way on the pedalboards of famous guitarists But JDF2 has the honor.Even its considered as an option against the Big Muff Pi for a number of reasons.

Not only it has been a favourite of Jimi Hendrix and David Gilmour, but also has remained in its original form since its conception. The one you get now is a reissue, but the core machinery is still intact.

One of the most interesting and engrossing features of Dunlop JDF2 Face is its unique disk shaped body design.Which was later dropped. The new version comes in a bright red enclosure packed with germanium components.

The control interface has two knobs and a switch. JDF2 wastes a great deal of real estate for no apparent reason. However the shape of JDF2 has its own appeal and charm. With that said, what makes it special is its unique looks and remodeled circuitry is a big success.

When it comes to controls of this fuzz beast, Dunlop kept it simple to configure. It has two knobs and a switch. One is the volume knob which is self explanatory the other knob controls the amount of fuzz in your signal chain. In the contemporary world, these controls may seem very basic but back in the 60’s when it was launched it was all a guitarist needed to create the best fuzz sound.

Since JDF2 Fuzz Face is equipped with germanium and vintage PNP transistors, it gives you pretty warm and vintage tonal fuzz with a versatile range. Even with its basic controls, it still offers a great range of tones to experiment with.

It’s a must have Fuzz pedal for Jimi Hendrix music fans.Although it’s not original Fuzz face but offers pretty much the same fuzz overall. JDF2 Fuzz Face is a pretty capable fuzz pedal even in contemporary times.

Pragmatically, there is no viable reason to choose Dunlop JFD2 Fuzz Face over the available fuzz pedal models  in the market but when it comes to experiencing something unique and a true taste of 60’s it should not be missed. With its simple controls and effects it is a great model for those who are looking forward to trying fuzz effects, and wish to experience a master piece of history which sounds as good as the contemporary fuzz pedals.

Black Cat is one of those boutique pedal companies, which might be overlooked easily, but has created one of the best pedals in the market.Black Cat Super Fuzz offers unique and interesting quality of fuzz tones alikes of which cannot be found in everyday.

What makes it unique here is its dual nature, it offers a great fuzz with an octave component.Enough to send shivers down your spine with its wicked sound and solid construction. The results are also just awesome. Making it worthy to compete with the popular fuzz pedals in the market. Let’s find out how and why this Black Cat is worthy of crossing your way.

Considering overall features this pedal is fairly a simple one.Its format matches the format of the most modern pedals so installation of this pedal board is not a headache. The graphic design Black Cat has used is a pure reminiscence of 50’s style theme, thus giving its a unique feel of its own.

You might have seen and felt that this fuzz box is not at all cheap. What makes your perception true is, mostly because of the two rare NOS germanium diodes used. Similarly all other electronic components used are also of high quality. It comes with a true bypass switched and is hand wired in the USA.

In terms of control interface, it has two knobs and a switch. The knobs naemd balance and expander are pretty self explanatory.Balance is used to control and adjust the amount of fuzz in your sound signal.whereas the latter is your volume control. The switch in the middle of the pedal is the defining feature, its named tone and when its on its gives an octavia component to your fuzz signal.

Once plugged, the fuzz effect u will be able to hear is very smooth, wholesome and rich in tonal hues.It gives a lot of 70’s flavors.Once you start playing with the tone switch, it gives u pretty melodious results. The unique octavia effect may not be for everyone but it’s a great addition in terms of non linear pedal effects.

The reason it’s on our list today, is because of its all encompassing necessary qualities which delivers an unusual fuzz with a unique twist. In Short, Black Cat Super Fuzz pedal is a definite check out.

Over all Black Cat Super Fuzz is worthy of more popularity than it enjoys now. The sole reason behind this is a relatively high market price. However, when manufacturing this Super Fuzz pedal Black Cat made sure all the components used are of top quality. Whereas the handwiring feature added additional costs.

Definitely this type of craftship comes at a price, there is no way around. When it comes to price, Super Fuzz is a more expensive option considered to its competitors.Which lowers the number of its potential buyers. So we would definitely want to see Black Cat reducing its price at least a little.

Catalinbread Karma Suture Germanium Harmonic Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal
  • Extremely versatile fuzz pedalto be used in several applications
  • Built on a rare and obscure circuit known as the Harmonic Percolator. This circuit has the amazing property of generating predominantly even-order harmonics - which creates an amazingly sweet and clear distortion.
  • Ability to play complex jazz chords through it and every note rings sweet and clear. So, using the original circuit as the springboard, they created the Karma Suture.

When Catalinbread decides to make pedal effects ,it hardly goes unnoticed by the guitar industry. Catalinbread is a famous name when it comes to quality production, both in terms of component quality and tonal quality. This company has given one of the best-made pedal effects to the industry. Their Karma Suture Harmonic Fuzz is an example of quality and excellence.

When compared to the famous fuzz pedals, Karma Suture offers an idiosyncratic performance, which delivers a quality of its own. Thus making it a bit confusing in nature but we love it the way it is.

Catalinbread pedals are known for their cool designs and Karma Suture stands no exception. Obvious from its name, the enclosure is wrapped with hindi design graphics. Overall it has a standard size and eliminates compatibility issues.

When it comes to circuitry it’s a pretty unique mix of great powerful components, which is rare to in the market.Catalinbread created this great masterpiece by putting NOS PNP germanium transistors, an NPN silicon transistor, plus a germanium and silicon diode into an alchemist pot  adding the unique catalinbread style to it. Resulting in an even order harmonics and a great range of harmonious tones. By all standards, Catalinbread Karma Suture Harmonic Fuzz is a hybrid fuzz pedal.

Aside from making awesome tailored boutique pedals, catalinbread is also famous for labelling its control which keeps you wondering about its function.Seeing some standard labelling came as a surprise for us.There are total four knobs, namely; Diodes, Density, Input, and Output.

Input and output knobs are pretty obvious, the former controls the amount of gain and the later deals with the output volume.Density increases sound distortion by adding  numerous  bass frequencies.Whereas diodes knob is responsible for adjusting the level of compression which affects the nature of distortion.

When it comes to performance, Catalinbread Karma Suture Harmonic Fuzz offers a very, very wide range of fuzz. Or you can say versatility is the core feature of its performance. When you dial in a neutral configuration, you get a great vintage tone. However, meeting the two extremes is difficult without drowning the signal completely.

When you get familiar with the working of this pedal, you will face no problem in dialing a varied range of fuzz tones which can be used in almost any genre including jazz style. The combination of germanium and silicon transistors adds a unique flavor to the fuzz tone. You can have a warm and round germanium fuzz tone while with the sharpness of silicone transistor in a single signal.

When it comes to an absolutely new level of versatility, it will be unfair forgetting the name of Catalinbread Karma Suture Harmonic Fuzz. It is by far one of the most versatile fuzz stompboxes on the market, which gives your performance the hint of  its signature catalinbread style and enables you to easily pull off any music genre you wish to.

Different from standard fuzz boxes, purists and amateurs might not like this one. However if you are a guitar enthusiast and like experimenting new sounds then Karma Suture Harmonic Fuzz is truly worth your time and money

  • Tone stack Scoop control
  • Adjustable compression intensity

Ever since Way Huge has joined hands with Dunlop, the lost glory of outstanding quality in fuzz segment is back.Way Huge WHE401 Swollen Pickle is one of the best fuzz pedal available leaving no doubt behind. Everything about this fuzz pedal is so magnificent that it creates an urge in its customers to try one. When it comes to comparing this with other top rated fuzz pedals in market without doubt it’s going to beat most of them.

It comes in a chunky flashy green color. That might have some association with its design but hasn’t proven yet.The body of Pickle is made with anodized aluminium which makes it tough and lightweight in nature. This pedal is built like a beast for heavy duty performances, so you are not expected to treat it like a princess.

One look on top of the pedal will assure you that there’s a lot to explore and create with this fuzz pedal. There are almost all kinds of knobs to work with, with some hidden knobs as well.

The loudness knob is the volume control and right across it is the sustain control; it controls the amount of fuzz in your signal. In the middle of volume and sustain, is the filter knob; which enables you to either darken the tone completely or make it more clear and obvious.

Below the upper cluster of controls , there are two mini knobs. On the left side, you have scoop, which is basically mid scoop and on the right side there is crunch.Crunch either compresses the sound of pedal or opens it up. Besides these, it also houses two internal knobs. One enables you to fine tune scoop control while the other allows you to choose between two clipping diodes. In simple words, you either have smooth fuzz or a spiky one.

To say least, the range of tones you can get from Way Huge WHE401 Swollen Pickle is impressive and versatile. It performance contrast from smooth soft fuzz to wicked wild ones or you can say, there’s a Fuzz Face in there somewhere, as well as a trace of Jimmy Page. For a single pedal to have this quality, it simply blows away most of the competitors in terms of versatility.

We must say that Way Huge WHE401 Swollen Pickle is something every guitar player must try once in their lifetime. They are pioneers of making versatile effects packed in a single stompbox. In Fuzz Industry they have taken the game to the next level. If you are looking for a flexible fuzz that feels and sounds expensive then Swollen Pickle is a must pick for you.

Wampler Velvet Fuzz V2 Guitar Effects Pedal
  • Designed with all the character, power, and tone of a classic fuzz and with the option to tame the sound and bring it back under control
  • Features two completely different clipping options, not just the basic silicon or germanium option like most pedals
  • Capable of achieving those classic fuzz big tones that compress massively across the bottom
  • Also allows you to tighten up the tones and have the pedal respond more like a distortion
  • Perfect for chasing down the tone of players like David Gilmour or Eric Johnson

When Wampler launched its velvet Fuzz in 2013 the community was divided.Initially people were not impressed with its specs but later with time they recognized its true potential. It not upto the mark as most of the famous fuzz pedals but its layered nature places it on our list.

Plugging it alone won’t probably blow you away nor it will give you the best feel but when used with other effects in signal chain it’s surely going to change your perception about it.

From the moment you unbox the Velvet Fuzz V2,you realize that you are going to deal with a high quality boutique pedal.which is not only capable of taming the sound but bringing it back under control. Apparently it has a pretty strong enclosure wrapped in graphic design of the 80’s.

On the inside its a unique circuitry built by using high quality components and hand wired. It houses two completely different clipping options unlike germanium and silicon pedals, proficient of delivering classic fuzz tones that compress massively across the bottom. Besides this, it comes with a genuine true bypass which is a feature you hardly see anymore.

The set of controls Velvet Fuzz V2 offers is different than the the standard fuzz layout. There are a total three knobs and a switch.Starting left to right, there is volume knob, pretty intelligible. Next comes the fuzz knob, crank it up you get more fuzz in your signal, roll it anti clockwise and the fuzz is barely there. The Brightness knob is responsible for adjusting you trebles, opening it up or cutting them down. The most interesting feature is the Big/Tight switch. When in big mode, it gives you more darker vintage fuzz while tight mode gives you kind of distortion effect.

As mentioned earlier, this is a kind of pedal that does not reveal itself as soon as you switch it on. Rather it has plenty of range but works best when paired with a more complex signal chain. Its tonal range is perfect for those who like to layer their effects. And it gives you a pretty standard experience. Its a perfect option for the fans of David Gilmour or Eric Johnson tone.

Despite having a unique circuitry, many users believe it has the standard core. Its a good option for those who want a boutique fuzz but doesn’t expect something different.  Reliable performance with proven tone  quality and compatibility is  what you can expect from Wampler velvet fuzz V2.For some it is boring and underwhelming, while others appreciate what Velvet V2 ha sto offer. So overall, it can be rated as an average fuzz pedal not something extraordinary.

Death by Audio Fuzz War Effect Pedal
  • Level and shape controls
  • Internal drive control

As the name suggests, Death by Audio Fuzz War V2 is completely addictive in nature. It has some really cool insane metal fuzz effects which leaves you glued to playing.Currently it’s one of the super spectacular fuzz boxes available in the market.Lets forget all the legendary fuzz pedals and Hail to Fuzz War V2 for mighty destruction.

In simple terms, Death by Audio Fuzz War V2 is not for timid players. It is capable of bringing mighty distortion in sound signal and a never ending punch of fuzziness to your music.

Just like looking at black cobra, putting one glance at Death by Audio Fuzz War V2 will make you realize how venomous and addictive this pedal can be.The pedal graphics are minimal and simple.

Once you remove the top panel and have a glance of the core, you will soon realize the overall standard and quality of Death by Audio. It comprises good quality components and an exceptional craftsmanship.Once you turn on the plug, you need to have good control of the knobs to produce outrageous fuzz effects.

The controls are very simple, consisting of only three knobs. The actual thrill and fun begins when you find it hard to harness this monster even with the basic controls. It comprises two large knobs and one smaller in size, this smaller knob is labelled as volume.

Fuzz knob is where all the fun lies, rotate it all the way back and Fuzz war transforms into a booster pedal. Now move it some more and you are into overdrive zone.As you keep cranking it up clockwise you will experience different phases of distortion.Until you finally end into what is called fuzz pandora box. Finally the tone knob works as filter, thats goes from darker overshadowed bass to much sharper and jagged effects.

Honestly, working on Death by Audio Fuzz War V2 can be exhausting, even the slightest adjustments will need great efficiency and fine skills to balance/fix the tone. There is so much fuzz jammed in this box that you will find it difficult to use it to its full potential. Its more on aggressive side until you learn how to deal with it.That is where you will be able to experience its versatility.

Death by Audio Fuzz War V2 is a tiny box filled with ultimate madness and fun.Its not as simple as it appears to be,it really needs true skills and time to unleash its full potential. Honestly, it’s not meant for the faint hearted.Even the most versatile guitarist has fun unleashing this lil monster.

With that said, it’s definitely not a choice for the beginner or amateurs. In contrast, those who are in need of extra spice and punch, Death by Audio Fuzz War V2 is surely going to serve their purpose.

The Fuzz Effect

For a beginner, to differentiate between overdrives, distortion and fuzz effects can be really confusing. As to ear, all sound the same.Strange enough, even the season players get confused recalling them. This is the reason that you will sometimes notice wrong labelling done. For eg distortion labelled as overdrives and vice versa, fuzz labeled as distortion etc.

Even though Fuzz and distortion pedal belong to the same class, there is a clear distinction between the two.A regular distortion pedal takes the signal, clips it and pushes it out the output lane.In result you get a distorted sound, that sounds the same at every volume.

Whereas, a fuzz signal takes the sound and clips it hard enough that in result you get a square signal. In contrast fuzz pedals use transistors to add gain.Which infuse enormous amounts of gain but also adds noise to the signal chain.

A fuzz pedal is capable of doing what it wishes to do.With that said, something interesting happens when you plug in a fuzz pedal. While playing it scrambles the signal hard, keeping the core signal intact. The resulting tone is where you recognize an overdrive tone with a surrounding bunch of fuzzy, wooly overtones.

It works by square clipping your sound, compressing the distortion to make an almost unrecognisable sound. It covers and saturates your tone giving it a fuzzy feel of its own. This quirky effect was first created in mid 60’s and since then has remained one of the popular choices. Truly fuzz effect offers a refreshing change which wasn’t experienced using the conventional distortion and overdrives.

When it comes to picking up the best  fuzz pedal for self, there are so many options out there by various leading brands which makes it very hard to choose the right pedal. Not only there is a difference in features but also in colors and designs which yet again can be a very overwhelming task to choose from.so getting a new fuzz pedal can be as exciting as it can be stressful, each pedal will give you a different sound and it’s best to go and research and see if it fits your style of playing in particular.

Different Types Of Fuzz Pedals

When it comes to fuzz boxes, it’s divided into two factions. Each one relies on one of the two transistors. As always, it’s good to see the available options and choose according to your personal needs. Before we review the two categories, be confident that both types of pedals are totally worth the money.

Germanium Fuzz Pedals

The first type of pedals use the germanium transistors, which were used since the inception of fuzz pedal.Germanium transistors are , capable of delivering a unique signature tone. The nature of germanium fuzz is warm, smooth and organic. The only shortcoming using germanium transistors is that isnt as available as silicone. This adds on the cost and makes the pedal expensive in nature.Purists insist on germanium fuzz pedals and subdue the others. We are not getting into this debate. In our belief both germanium and silicon has their own application.

Silicon Fuzz Pedals

Silicone fuzz pedals gained popularity among manufacturers due to its cheap cost  as compared to germanium transistors. Beside obvious reduction in manufacturing cost, there was notable difference in the sound effects delivered by silicone fuzz pedals.Silicone Fuzz pedals delivers a more aggressive and raw sound as compared to the warm germanium sound.

Application Of Fuzz Pedals In Modern Music

As we know, fuzz effects were popular back in the days of Hendrix, the rolling stone and similar bands.Because of which it is seen as a royal gateway to vintage rock tone in the modern era. However nowadays more and more bands are inclined towards fuzz rather than the distortion and overdrive effects.Needless to say, Fuzz still finds place on the pedalboard.

Fuzz As A Source Of Sustain

One of the core side effects of fuzz is increased sustain.Even some of the pedals comes with a sustain knob which gives you the chance to manually adjust the sustain. It makes fuzz a great tool when you are looking for minor distortions in your tone.

Another interesting fact about fuzz pedals is that their tone changes with the change in the volume of your guitar.Inst it a cool feature? As said earlier, fuzz relies heavily on strength of the signal fed into the pedal board. In other words, if you keep guitar volume low, you will experience a clean and smoother fuzz.If you crank up the volume, more fuzz  aggression can be heard. This means that using a volume knob on the pedal you can set in several tone profiles according to your needs. With all said, it very important to understand how change in input volume affects your other pedals.

The last tip we would like to add is the pick response. Fuzz pedals are the rare effects which respond differently to how aggressively you pull your guitar strings.Harder picks will ensure more aggressive tone while a weaker pick will deliver more clean tone.In a way fuzz pedal can be helpful in reviewing how much your picking technique varies as you play.

Where To Put The Fuzz In Your Signal Chain?

Fuzz pedals are generally placed at the beginning of the signal chains just like a distortion and overdrive effects. With the latter two you have some freedom but with fuzz effects you have to be very careful. The reason behind is that fuzz pedal works best with raw signal straight from guitar. As a matter of fact most fuzz issues can be resolved by placing the fuzz pedal near the guitar.

Interestingly, fuzz pedals are still in market, in spite of the fact that so many decades have elapsed since their inception. They are reminiscent of the times when signal chain was simple and guitar output was less reliable. Not only we still have access to the exact same models but also to one of the favourite fuzz pedals of legendary guitarist. We also find the modern version of the vintage pedals now which gives the same taste with modernize vocals.

Harnessing fuzz effects needs some time to master the art, but the end results are worth the wait.Plugging in a good pedal will make you realize that old is gold.

We hope that this review was useful and will be helpful in your decision making process. We assure that any of the selected fuzz pedals in this review is the choice you won’t regret. So what are you waiting for? Just jot down your personal needs and viola!!!

Electro Harmonix is a well known brands of effect pedals. They have their own mysterious style. The Electro-Harmonix Voice Box Harmony Machine comes in an unusual design offering a bag full of reliability and versatility in terms of a harmonizer pedal. Let’s have a look at this bad boy.

The format of the voice box harmony machine makes it most desirable among the people. Unlike the other pedals, it is very easy to mount the Voice Box Harmony machine to the pedal board. Our only concern is about the choice of  I/O placement. That is, instead of placing the ports on the back side of the pedal, they are on the sides of it.This can be a mess if you have other pedals close. In terms of features it gives 8 types of harmonizing effects. It also has a built in reverb and vocoder.

Overall it offers fairly simple features.By looking closely at this pedal, it’s quite obvious that electro harmonix gave significance to the core functions of the pedal than anything else.It is encased in a strong metal enclosure ready to rock the stage.

The control interface of the Electro Harmonix Voice box machine is much the same as their other pedal models. Beside the graphic on top, there is not much change in the manuals. At the top of the pedal we have main knobs while the foot switches are placed at the bottom. While in the middle you see the LED diodes which indicate the harmony mode you are in.Knobs are labeled as Blend,Dry,Harmony,Reverb,Gender bend,Voice mixed and preset select knob.

The mic gain switch assures an easy pairing with your guitar. The switches on bottom allows you to preset and bypass microphone.Due to the clear and intelligible labelling of the controls, it makes E-H Voice box Machine very easy to use.It might take you less then half an hour to master the controls.

When it comes to features and performance, it gives a true essence of electro-Harmonix pedals. That is, focus is more on the performance than advance features. Tracking is just near to perfect and works completely fine with any instrument you pair with it.Nowadays featuring vocoder is a rare but whose going to dislike this unique effect.

The most exciting feature is the range of harmony settings it provides to experiment with. Each is tangibly different, sounding from pure organics to more artificial sounds. Despite the fact that it doesn’t have an LCD display or other flashy effects, its super great performance is just enough to beat the above. Most of all its always fun to use.

Summing up

At the end of the day, Electro Harmonix is simple and to the point harmonizer. It lacks the advanced features but when it comes to work its super powerful and hard to beat.

TC Helicon Harmony Singer comes in pretty compact size. But don’t get deceived by its small size. It adequately houses all the desirable harmonizer pedal features.Lets take a closer look and find out what it is like.

TC Helicon is one of the most favourite brands when it comes to harmonizer pedals. The reason can be assessed by the quality of Harmony singer. Its compact in size with a sturdy body to be used on and off the stage. The top of the pedal features all the controls. However on the sides and front the I/O ports are placed.Whereas the side panels features the input and output.

It has versatile modes to play with, so everytime you mess with adjustments it will be refreshing and fun.

When it’s time to plug this harmonizer and give it a try, we are pretty sure it will leave you surprised by its amazing effects. It gives a very soft color tone unlike most of the robotic harmonizers. The close mode is bit aggressive in nature but yet again suitable for specific applications.Contrary to it the soft mode is very subtle but efficiency is guaranteed on every bit.

The pedal tracks very well even if you are playing at lower volume, the only thing u need to be cautious about is to sing directly into the microphone. unfortunately it has trouble in tracking low mic signals.with that said, it gives an automated feel because the pedal adapts quickly to the music you are playing without any lag.

Summing up

TC Helicon does not offer something extraordinary when it comes to harmonizer effects. But offers little more life to your music. The pedal works great and most importantly is easy to use. There are some deficiencies but that definitely are not a deal breaker. So if you are a starter, it’s not a bad idea to start your journey with Harmony Singer.

Boss VE-2 is solely a harmonizer pedal and does not offer much when it comes to versatility.Through other models of Boss are much more versatile in nature.even so it includes delay and reverb effect but Boss VE-2 is specifically designed for harmonizer effects.

Boss VE-2 is super easy to use.The control panel is simple and clean.however at first glance it may look confusing and messed up by looking at the various knobs, buttons and led indicators.

The core functions are controlled by three knobs; balance, type and key.

The balance knob sounds quite self explanatory while the type knob allows you to choose from 24 distinct harmony modes.out of 24, 12 are one voice harmonies while the other 12 are two voice harmonies.

As we know its a guitar control harmonier but still the key knobs allow you to manually set the key.it can also be set to hybrid mode where both the guitar and key can be set in motion together. The footswitch gives the feel of classic boss  pedals.

When we talk about Boss VE-2 performance, it simply sounds great. It surprisingly combines the sounds of Boss/Roland VE range, providing a high quality, studio-like vocal sound for your live performance.it gives a very warm organic tone even when you are messing with the harmony modes. The delay and reverb effects are just okay. But when it comes to tracking it’s phenomenal.

The harmonizer tracks accurately both guitar and keyboard complex chords.when hybrid mode is used some interesting results can be witnessed.depending on your personal settings even the manual key helps a lot and tracks pretty well even in this mode.In essence, boss deliver what it claims there is no over or under exaggeration. That is the quality Boss delivers.

In the end  we must conclude that Boss VE-2 is a super affordable harmonizer pedal compared to the more complex designs. It’s simple in design and functions but still offers a rock solid performance.Although it doesn’t offer versatile features like other harmonizers but still it’s not the one to miss out on.

When it comes to the internal chassis, it has a great processor and super chord tracking abilities. However, this is not all. Its core functions are equipped with numerous other features which make it a full fledged stage star.

For beginners, it has a Live Adapt technology which continuously monitors the input, tempo, key and other details.which makes the real time adjustments possible in your performance. It also offers a built in reverb, compressor, delay and other effects.

What really makes it standout are the small things.Like it includes a sound check feature, which allows you to record one phrase and loop it with another while adjusting the parameters. That is you can instantly hear the results as you mess with.

In terms of controls, when you put a glance on it, it might seem very confusing and complicated which in actuality is a myth. All the basic controls are in the center of harmonier. It comes with a built in LCD display, which make it easier to navigate and adjust the effects.underneath the LCD several knobs and buttons are placed; they are used to connect with software.

If we see overall Digitech kept things simple and easy, as compared to the outlandish designs in the market. After all, DigiTech has years old experience in designing complicated pedals. They did their best by clearly labelling every knob, button or switch. There is no room for guesswork.

The performance of DigiTech is upto the mark and as per our expectations. Its core features works as good as stated. This pedal is capable of tracking slightest chords strung and offer a huge room of versatility and harmony. However as everything good comes with a cost attach its reverb and delay effects could have been better. It doesn’t mean that these effects are not gud but we expected a whole new level of performance from DigiTech.

Fortunately this weakness  does not affect the overall  impression of  VLHM and does not make it less likely choice. The special feature Live Adapt works flawlessly. Only the above mentioned features we were worried about but every guitar play has their own set of reverb and delays they like to use.

VLHM is one of the best creations of DigiTech. It offers advance features like live adapt which is found rarely in low budget harmonizer. So we can confidently say that the shortcomings starts to pale away once you start playing with this super harmonizer. You will be surprised that it has so much to offer in an average price. We would say you must really give it a quick look maybe it’s the one for you.

Function of vocal harmonizer

Vocal harmonizers function like audio processors. It creates an essential harmony of tone between your guitar and microphone. In other words it works by giving chorus effect to your vocals. So its a must pedal in your kit to rock the stage, all you need is a guitar, microphone and amplifier

So whenever you want a specific stanza some width all you have to do is just hold that switch and bruh you have it. While older pedals were much simpler to use, instead of tracking the guitar  they used to manually allow you to select a key of your choice. Even some of the modern pedals also have this feature, in case you face issues with the live tracking of vocals.

Best part is, every model features both XLR  and TRS ports, which enables you to easily connect it with other instruments. Or you can say anything which is powered and amplified is a go.

Contemporary vocal harmonizers

Vocal Harmonizers like other guitar effects have evolved overtime with advancement in technology. Compared to the past, now we have more powerful harmonizers with added features and effects, capable of performing numerous tasks at once. The modern CPU facilitates perfect tracking abilities and multi tasking.

Modern pedals are equipped with a whole array of additional options, such as reverb and delay. Which were manufactured as separate reverb and delay pedals in the past. What makes morden pedals to outshine is automation. If we take example of TC Helicon Play Acoustic from our list, we will see that this pedal features what is called an Adaptive Tone technology. This feature automatically EQs, de-esses and generally tunes your vocals as you perform.

How to select the best vocal harmonizer

While choosing the best harmonizer pedal for yourself, you have to consider two things to make a choice. First think about your budget, secondly reflect on your intended use of the pedal.

So if you are someone who wants a basic harmonizer pedal with less features you can easily find some pretty attainable models. But if you are someone who wants the best and greatest then surely you have to make your mind to pay more. As we know everything good comes with a hike in price.

Beside the finance, you also have to consider the type harmonies you wish to play with. Every brand comes with a different set of harmonies although they do present neutral harmony modes. The point here is to find a model to cater your needs and taste. This surely is going to require some research on your part, once done wisely it’s going to pay off.

Limitations Of Vocal Harmonizers

As we know nothing in this world is perfect and everything comes with a cost attached, even modern harmonizers do have its own limitations. One of the limitation you might come across is the lack of range, That is, the pedal is going to run out of available pitch, at which time you won’t get the effect anymore. Those pedals that have manually adjustable keys often offer a hybrid mode of operation. When used, this mode will track your chords until it runs out of range and then just default back to whatever value you’ve manually selected.

The other limitation is outpacing the processor unit in the pedal.  Even though its a rare scenario nowadays, there are some examples where your playing speed is faster than the active harmonizer  tracker. This issue is faced by many pedals with an active tracking feature.some are more susceptible than others, but the technology is slowly closing that gap for good.

Vocal harmonizers are one of the specialized pedals which are only used in specific situations but have the capability and capacity to change your tone completely. If you are using a superficial setup with minimum gears, a vocal harmonizer can add new girth and dimension to your music. Good news is that most of the pedals present in the market are great to use in every aspect. It is for sure that some models are better than others but overall they all give a solid core performance.Lastly, vocal harmonizers are the type of pedals that urge you to explore your skills, both vocal and guitar related.

The synthesized effect is obtained by doubling “octave-up” or cutting down the “octave-down” frequencies.

Octave effects were based on analogue channels in the early years. Nowadays, these effects are more digitalized and modern with a whole bunch of new features and options. This effect is truly out of the box and can make a piece of music sounds much harmonious. Now, after knowing what how octave effects are let’s talk about the types of octave pedals.

These pedals are categorized into two categories: analogue and digital. The analogue is the original and refined technology. On the other hand, digital is more modernized versions with advanced features.

As we all know, octave pedals were originally analogue pedals with analogue circuitry. They were confined to only one (octave down) in comparison with the input signal. Most analogue octave pedals are monophonic. This means that they are capable of monitoring only single notes. The main issue with these pedals is their weak system of “tracking”. The tracking is an ability of a pedal to detect the note which being played and emit a suitable octave effect. The analogue pedals are weak in doing so and can end up blowing out.

Digital Octaves are more advanced and have various features to play with. Unlike analogue pedals, these digital babies provide both up and down octave effects. They are easy to handle and have a unique personality and appearance. These pedals have solved the problem of monophonic limits.
